    Abstract: A method of making a preloaded bearing arrangement and a preloaded bearing arrangement are provided. The method comprises the steps of placing a bearing around a shaft and then placing a frustoconical disc spring around the shaft such that a portion of the disc spring abuts the bearing. A deformable cup is placed around the shaft, and an annular section of the deformable cup is spaced apart from the frustoconical disc spring and the cup is held at a fixed position along the shaft. A split shim is inserted between the annular section of the deformable cup and the disc spring to apply a preload to the disc spring. The deformable cup is then deformed such that a sidewall of the deformable cup extends around the split shim to hold the split shim in place relative to the shaft.

    Abstract: There is provided a rotary seal for sealing around shafts in flight controls of an aircraft. The rotary shaft seal comprises: an annular first sealing surface for sealing against a housing; an annular second sealing surface for sealing against a rotatable surface; a reservoir arranged for receiving a fluid that is leaked past the second sealing surface; and a sorbent material within the reservoir for absorbing and/or adsorbing the fluid received within the reservoir. Also provided is a method of sealing around a rotary cylindrical surface within a housing using a rotary seal provided on the cylindrical surface, wherein the rotary seal comprises an annular first sealing surface for sealing against the housing and an annular second sealing surface for sealing against a rotating surface.

    Abstract: An actuator failure or disconnection detection device for an aircraft leading edge slat comprises a base and a biasing assembly mounted to the base and movable relative thereto. The base and biasing assembly are removably mountable between a fixed structure in the aircraft wing and the slat at an actuator location. The device further comprises an indicator for indicating the amount of movement of the biasing assembly in a direction towards the base when the slat is retracted towards the wing leading edge. The indicator may be a collar slidably mounted on the device.
