  • Publication number: 20230054284
Abstract: A tooling for cold forming operations can include a transition shoe and a die. The transition shoe can include a first dovetail formation and a second dovetail formation opposite the first dovetail formation relative to a pressing direction. The first dovetail formation can be configured to removably engage a dovetail formation on a shoe of a press. The die can include a third dovetail formation and a first cold forming profile. The third dovetail formation can be configured to removably engage the second dovetail formation on the transition shoe to removably secure the die to the press for cold forming operations.

  • Patent number: 7118299
Abstract: A high strength reinforcing bar splice uses a contractible jaw assembly bridging the bar ends to be joined. The jaw assembly includes interior teeth designed to bite into the projecting ribs or deformations on the outside of the bar ends which form the overall diameter of the bar but not the core or nominal diameter of the bar. The jaw assembly is constricted from both axial ends by driving tapered locking collars on each end of the jaw assembly with a tool while concurrently causing the jaw assembly to constrict and bite into the bar ends. When the tool is removed, the collars remain in place locking the jaw assembly closed. The splice provides not only high tensile and compressive strengths but also has good fatigue and dynamic strength to qualify as a Type 2 coupler.

  • Patent number: 5158404
Abstract: A machine for taper threading the end of a bar such as reinforcing bar used in concrete construction utilizes a power operated vice to clamp and feed the bar end axially into a rotary head which contains chaser tooling holders which open uniformly on the bar end as the head rotates. The rotary head is axially stationary but contains an axially movable key or linear cam which engages a readily removable transversely extending control rod assembly in turn moving the chaser holders. Axial movement of the power vice and thus the bar end at a controlled axial speed with respect to the rotary speed of the head moves the key to cause the movement of the chaser holders. The chaser holders in addition to supporting the thread cutting chasers also support ahead of the chaser an indexable triangular insert to pre-cone the bar end.

  • Patent number: 4889324
Abstract: An improved thermite reaction containment vessel and method of using the same includes a filter assembly which serves to filter the gases evolving from the thermite reaction and reduce the amount of smoke, fume and the like by-products emitted. In one preferred embodiment the filter assembly comprises a primary filter and a secondary filter. An air gap may be provided between the primary and secondary filter so as to provide additional cooling of the gases before they enter the secondary filter. The invention further provides a remote electrical ignition system which is capable of igniting thermite reaction materials without the use of a starting material. The ignition system may include an ignition fuse having an aluminum core and an outer coating comprising palladium and ruthenium or hot wire.

  • Patent number: 4881677
Abstract: An improved thermite reaction containment vessel and method of using the same includes a crucible in which the exothermic material is contained and which is connected at its lower end via a tap hole to a weld chamber in which the parts to be welded are positioned. On top of the crucible is positioned a baffle assembly which includes a plurality of expansion chambers which allows the escaping gas to expand and be reduced in velocity. As the gases move from one expansion chamber to the next the gases change direction. The expansion, direction change and the large surface area of the baffle assembly allows the gases to slow and cool before being exhausted leaving behind molten metal spatter or flame and greatly reducing the amount of smoke exhausted since particulate matter is accumulated on the baffle interior surface. Several forms of baffle assembly are disclosed using inverted stacked metal cups.

  • Patent number: 4526496
Abstract: A tapered thread cutting machine includes a multi-part rotary machining head, one part including a through-recess and another being a separable interior wear plate. Interacting chaser holders are mounted in the recess and include angled V-shaped slots in which block type chasers may be secured between clamps and locating pins enabling the chasers to be removed and replaced without removing the holders from the recess. The holders are driven by a linear cam for opening and closing movement through a thrust block mounted on a guide rod, such thrust block being fitted in a slot in one holder but otherwise not secured thereto so that binding in the opening and closing of tool holders is minimized.
