  • Publication number: 20200191023
Abstract: An exhaust valve rocker arm assembly operable in a combustion engine mode and an engine braking mode, the exhaust valve rocker arm assembly selectively opening first and second exhaust valves and including a rocker shaft, exhaust valve rocker arm assembly and a ball engine brake mechanism. The exhaust valve rocker arm assembly has an exhaust rocker arm that receives the rocker shaft and is configured to rotate around the rocker shaft. The ball engine brake mechanism is configured on the exhaust rocker arm and selectively actuates a valve plunger causing an exhaust valve to perform engine braking. The ball engine brake mechanism includes a capsule assembly having a capsule, a biasing member and a ball. The capsule has a cylindrical body that extends between a first end having an actuation face and a second end having a spring return face.

  • Publication number: 20200182108
Abstract: An exhaust valve rocker arm for an exhaust valve rocker arm assembly operable in a combustion engine drive mode and an engine braking mode, and configured to selectively open first and second exhaust valves, includes a body defining an aperture to receive a rocker shaft such that the body is rotatable about the rocker shaft, a bore defined in the body, and a rotating stepped engine brake capsule disposed in the bore and having a castellation mechanism. The rotating stepped engine brake capsule is movable between a locked, engine brake active position and an unlocked, engine brake inactive position.

  • Publication number: 20190360363
Abstract: A valve train assembly includes an intake rocker arm, an exhaust rocker arm, a carrier configured to couple to a cylinder block and operably associated with the intake rocker arm and the exhaust rocker arm, the carrier including a first aperture, and a cylinder deactivation (CDA) capsule disposed within the first aperture. The CDA capsule is configured to move between a latched condition that transfers motion from a push rod to one of the intake rocker arm and the exhaust rocker arm, and an unlatched condition that absorbs motion from the push rod and does not transfer the motion to the intake rocker arm or the exhaust rocker arm.

  • Publication number: 20190178113
Abstract: A modular exhaust valve rocker arm assembly system comprising first and second rocker arm assemblies configured to each selectively receive a hydraulic lash adjustment assembly or a mechanical lash adjustment assembly. A main lifter assembly operably associated with the first and second rocker arm assemblies. An added motion lifter assembly operably associated with the first rocker arm assembly and configured to selectively provide one of an early lift profile and an extended lift profile, which can comprise at least one of an engine braking feature, a late intake valve closing (LIVC) feature, and an early exhaust valve opening (EEVO) feature. The main lifter can be configured as a fixed lifter or as a deactivating lifter for cylinder deactivation (CDA) configured to selectively move to a deactivated state configured to absorb motion of a normal lift profile cam into lost motion.

  • Publication number: 20190145288
Abstract: A rocker arm assembly for a Type II valvetrain arranged for cooperation with a cylinder head includes a roller finger follower (RFF) and a lost motion with reset (LMR) hydraulic assembly. The RFF has a first end and a second end. The first end cooperates with a valve. The LMR hydraulic assembly has a hydraulic control element and a plunger. The LMR hydraulic assembly moves the plunger between a rigid position and a non-rigid position. The LMR hydraulic assembly is configured at the second end of the RFF.

  • Publication number: 20190107011
Abstract: A valve train assembly includes at least a number of exhaust valves; at least one camshaft with at least a pair of a primary lift cam and an engine brake lift cam. A number of rocker arms each include a cam follower for following one of the primary lift cam and the engine brake lift cam. One rocker arm includes a cam follower following an engine brake lift cam. The rocker arm is provided with an engine brake capsule. Various biasing assemblies are disclosed that cooperate with one of the rocker arms of which the cam follower follows an engine brake lift cam to accommodate mechanical lash.
