  • Patent number: 6665309
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating communications in a radio communication system that utilizes shared, packet channels. One or more common control channels are defined upon a forward link extending between a network part of the radio communication system and the mobile stations thereof. Assignment information sets so generated by an assignment information generator and formatted into data frames for communication to the mobile stations. The mobile stations monitor a single shared packet control channel to receive the assignment information sent thereto upon the common shared channel.

  • Publication number: 20030227881
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating communication of a data signaling message on an F-PDCH in a CDMA 2000 1×EV-DV communication system. Determination is made as to whether the data signaling message is of a length shorter than the bit-length allocation of a frame within which to communicate the data signaling message. If so, copies of the data signaling message are formed and interleaved by an interleaver to form interleaved representations thereof. The interleaved copies are inserted into the available portions of the frame and communicated upon the F-PDCH. Increased reliability of transmission due to the increased redundancy at reduced susceptibility to burst error is provided.

  • Publication number: 20030227869
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for generating a TVMAR (traffic volume measurement and reporting) report, or other appropriate report, to facilitate packet scheduling in a packet-based communication system. A signal is generated at a network part of a radio communication system indicative of parameters that the mobile station is to include in the TVMAR report, subsequently to be generated by the mobile station. The signal is generated by a signal generator and sent to the mobile station to be detected thereat by a detector. The communication indicia is measured by a measurer and the measured values of the selected parameters are formed into a TVMAR report and returned to the network part.

  • Publication number: 20030133408
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for enhancing VoIP communication services at a selected QoS level in a radio communication system. Apparatus is embodied at a MAC (Medium Access Control) layer of the communication system by which selectably to cause retransmission and re-ordering of data communicated pursuant to effectuation of the communication service. A service request generator generates a service request that requests initiation the communication service in which data retransmission is effectuated at the MAC layer. And, a buffer is utilized at the MAC layer at which data is re-ordered, if necessary, to place the data in form for delivery to higher logical layers defined in the communication system.

  • Publication number: 20030130000
Abstract: A method and apparatus for packet-data header decompression, particularly advantageous for use in connection with broadcast and multicast messages being transported through a radio telecommunication system operable according to the CDMA 2000 standard. When a mobile subscriber desires broadcast content from a content server, the mobile station sets up a PPP session for submitting the request and negotiating security protocols. When a subscription is granted, the mobile station receives broadcast content that has undergone header compression. In order to synchronize its decompressor, the mobile station receives a full header from a PDSN. The full header is preferably sent out on a periodic basis just for this purpose.

  • Publication number: 20030054807
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating effectuation of a multicast and broadcast communication service in a CDMA 2000, or other radio, communication system. A broadcast service parameter message generator generates messages including separate parts, one part common to all of the transport channels, and a second part common to less than all of the transport channels. A frame transmitter and frame detector operates pursuant to a modified H-ARQ communication scheme and, a set comparator is provided for the mobile stations operable in the communication system by which to determine a multicast active set of base transceiver stations to which the mobile station tunes to receive the data forming the multicast and broadcast communication service.

  • Publication number: 20030035441
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for providing a radio link layer control procedure to maintain the sensitivity of UDP-Lite-formatted data at an RLP (Radio Link Protocol), or other, layer. An indicator generator generates an indication of the sensitivity-type of data that is formatted at the RLP layer. An RLP packet is generated, including the sensitivity data indicator value, and sent to a receiving station. When received thereat, the value of the sensitivity data indicator is utilized and subsequent actions, whether to permit retransmission of the data in the event of erroneous-, or non-, delivery is made.

  • Patent number: 6501947
Abstract: The present invention is a system for distributing the reconnection attempts of multiple system users in a CDMA telephone system over a broad time window. The present invention allows either the base station or the mobile station to process data to determine an appropriate reconnect time. The data may include resource capability, priority, client connects pending, and timing and amount of data on pending connection requests. Using this data information, a more efficient reconnection scheme may be developed. The number of requests required to successfully connect can be reduced while increasing the utilization of resources and reducing the delay until connection. Under an intelligent reconnection scheme, the probability of system users attempting simultaneous reconnection is reduced, thus reducing the likelihood of reconnection collision.

  • Publication number: 20020191544
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and system for interlayer control where a Protocol Data Unit (PDU) is received from a lower protocol layer at a upper layer where the lower and upper layer are both involved in a retransmission function, a re-sequencing function, or both functions. The lower layer signals the upper layer for retransmission of a PDU when the retransmissions of that PDU have been exhausted and failed at the lower layer. The signaling scheme from the lower layer to the upper layer is an ABORT notification. This ABORT notification comes with associated parameters to indicate to the upper layer which PDU can be requested for retransmission from the upper layer.

  • Publication number: 20020141362
Abstract: The invention is a process and system for controlling selection of which MS is to receive the next packet data transmission on a forward channel and selection of which plural MCS is to be used for the packet data transmissions on the forward channel. A process for controlling selection of MCS method to be used by a BTS (10) to transmit data packets over a forward shared channel to a MS (12) in accordance with the invention stores information at the base transceiver station, the information containing MCS methods which may be selected to transmit data packets over the forward shared channel to the MS; receiving from the MS at the BTS a quality indication of transmission of data packets over the forward channel to the BTS; and selecting a MCS method from a plurality of MCS methods which may be used to transmit data packets on the forward channel dependent upon the received quality indication.

  • Patent number: 6226301
Abstract: A method and apparatus for segmentation and assembly of data frames for retransmission in a telecommunications system. Zero padding of radio link protocol (RLP) data frames carrying retransmissions is minimized. RLP data frames carrying retransmitted data of an RLP data frame may also carry at least one newly transmitted RLP data frame or at least one other complete or partial retransmitted RLP data frame. The RLP data frames are passed to a lower level protocol and transmitted in at least one transmission frame.

  • Patent number: 6189122
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a retransmission in a telecommunications system. A pointer, V(P), that points to the upper bound of retransmitted data frames in a receiver buffer is introduced. A list includes at least one entry indicating a missed data frame for which a retransmission request has been transmitted. The entry is associated with a retransmission/abort timer that is started upon transmission of the retransmission request for the data frame. Once a retransmission timer is started, any received data frame type, whether valid or not, is counted in the incrementation of the retransmission/abort timer for an unreceived data frame. However, if the received data frame is not a valid data frame, any expiration action on the retransmission/abort timer is disabled. Also, anytime any valid frame is received, an expiration action may be taken on the retransmission timer of unreceived data frames having a sequence number less than V(P).
