  • Patent number: 8382929
Abstract: An adhesive composition comprising as principal components, a polymerizable component, an ambient temperature radical polymerization catalyst system and a photoinitiator. The adhesive may optionally comprise an adhesion promoter, a toughener, an epoxy, and a filler material. Further, a two-part reactive adhesive comprising, a first part comprising, (i) at least one free radical-polymerizable monomer, (ii) at least one reducing agent, and (iii) a photoinitiator, and a second part comprising an oxidizing agent that is reactive at ambient temperature with the reducing agent to produce free radicals that are capable of initiating and propagating free radical polymerization.

  • Publication number: 20090110835
Abstract: An adhesive composition is provided which is capable of bonding to metallic surfaces which are contaminated with oil or oily residue. An adhesion improving additive is added to the base adhesive/coating composition which enables the adhesive to achieve better bonding to oily substrates. Addition of the adhesion improving additive improves the adhesion of adhesives, sealants, and coatings to the oily substrates used in the automotive and industrial markets. The an adhesion improving additive is an aliphatic molecule of at least 8 carbon atoms or having an aliphatic end group or side chain of least 6 carbon atoms, and wherein the adhesion improving additive comprises a boiling point of at least 30° C.

  • Publication number: 20030003258
Abstract: The invention is directed to assembly of a plurality of joined panel parts. Some of the individual parts contain a pre-applied curable adhesive to one or more sides or edges. An initiating metal activator is applied to complementing edges and cure is activated when the parts are assembled. The pre-applied adhesive system contains monomer(s), initiators, oligomers, an acid, and a sulfonyl compound. An activating or initiating metal foil, dispersion or coating is applied to the complementary surface. The bonding is effected when the adhesive system is activated by mating the edges. The activating metal is a reducible elemental transition metal. The metal is affixed to one surface which is brought into proximity with the curable adhesive compound dispensed onto the complementing part.

  • Patent number: 6153719
Abstract: A composition that includes an epoxy compound, a thiol curing agent, a catalyst and a phosphorus--containing compound having at least one P--OH group and at least one organic moiety characterized by the presence of an ethylenically unsaturated group. The composition is particularly useful as a sealer for an adhesive joint.

  • Patent number: 6073771
Abstract: Containers for storing and/or transporting sulfur-containing compounds, and methods of deodorizing headspace gases containing sulfur-containing compounds, are disclosed. The containers include a body and a lid. In one embodiment, copper or another sulfur-deodorizing substance is attached to either the lid or upper sides of the container or is suspended in the headspace. The sulfur-deodorizing substance reacts with or adsorbs or absorbs any sulfur-containing compounds present in the headspace volume to reduce the odor in the headspace. In another embodiment, when the container include a solid or viscous liquid sulfur-containing compound, a pouch containing a sulfur-deodorizing substance is placed on top of the sulfur-containing compound.
