  • Publication number: 20020158622
Abstract: A method of estimating the loop phase error in a negative feedback amplifier is disclosed which comprises applying a test signal to the input of the amplifier, modulating the phase of the feedback signal to be summed to the test signal input to the amplifier, measuring the amplitude of the forward signal of the amplifier at two harmonics of the frequency of the phase modulation, and estimating the loop phase error on the basis of said two amplitude measurements. Apparatus for carrying out such a method is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20020120394
Abstract: A system which allows a central control unit to track automatically the positions of a fleet of mobile units. Each mobile unit carries a position updating apparatus which includes means to determine its position, and processing means in the form of computing equipment in communication with the position determining means. The processing means in turn controls a transmitting means, such as a radio transmitter of the private mobile radio system that the mobile unit uses for communication, for transmitting information to the central control. The position determining means and processing means are arranged to send the latest position of the mobile unit to the central control at intervals. The processing means stores a number of rules for determining the interval between the transmission of position update messages to the central control. These rules are based upon the direction of travel of the mobile unit and other factors, such as its location.

  • Publication number: 20010051525
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for connecting calls to mobile stations (A to H) in a radio telecommunications network, such as a private mobile radio system or a cellular telephone system, so as to minimise call set-up delays and communication bottlenecks in the fixed part of the network. A plurality of location data caches (d1 to d4) are provided, each arranged to store location data for selected mobile stations capable of communicating via the network. Each location data cache (d1 to d4) is accessible by one or more base stations (b1 to b4) of the network. In the event that location data is required for a mobile station (A to H) that is not one of the selected mobile stations in a location data cache (d1 to d4) accessible to a base station, the base station (b1 to b4) requests location data from a location data store (dc) containing location data records for all the mobile stations of the network.

  • Patent number: 5003492
Abstract: The two-digit number displayed by a display apparatus (1) is adjusted by means of a microcontroller (4) in response to actuation of increment (5) and decrement (6) keys. Each new actuation of the increment key results in incrementation of the displayed number by unity. However, if this actuation is prolonged the first number in each succeeding higher ranking decade are next displayed in direct succession. Similarly, each new actuation of the decrement key results in decrementation of the displayed number of unity. However, if this actuation is prolonged the first number of the current decade and then the first number of each decade of successively lower rank are next displayed in direct succession.

  • Patent number: 4920511
Abstract: In order, for example, to expand the input and output of a microcomputer (7) having a serial input/output capability, a parallel data input port (2 or 3) or output port (4 or 5) is selected by clocking serial selection bits from a serial data line (1) into a first shift register (56) and then enabling a latch (58) for the register parallel output (57). This results in a change in level on a particular one of a set of a parallel output lines (35,36,49,50) which corresponds to the particular group of selection bits written, and hence to a particular port. If the selected port is an output port the change in level results in the strobing of a latch (43 or 44) corresponding to that port, and hence the transfer of the contents of a further shift register (39 or 40) corresponding to that port. These contents are previously written in from the serial data path (1), each further shift register (39,40) being connected in cascade with the first register.
