  • Patent number: 6869386
Abstract: Method for manufacturing discrete articles from a material web using a cyclic master reference signal to synchronize the servo actuation of multiple operational units in a manufacturing apparatus to perform periodic operations on successive product segments of the material web and thereby form the articles, without the need for ongoing external phasing or registration to maintain synchronization of the operational units relative to the articles being made. The method is particularly suited for application in the manufacture of disposable absorbent articles and other products formed from web materials. Because of the coordination by a common reference signal, the execution by each of the individual servo systems of its programmed actuation instructions results in its actuation being synchronous with that of the other servo systems.

  • Patent number: 6816270
Abstract: A method and apparatus in a data processing system for processing a print job. A call is received from an application to print the print job to a selected printer, wherein the print job includes a request to use a hardware service. A print preview of the print job prior to printing the print job is provided. Responsive to receiving an indication that the print job is to be printed after providing the print preview, the print job is sent to a device driver for the selected printer to print the print job. A determination is made as to whether the selected printer supports the hardware service. Responsive to a determination that the hardware service is unsupported by the selected printer, the hardware service is provided using a software simulation.

  • Publication number: 20040207129
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a bathtub liner over an existing bathtub comprising a container, a seal, a heating element, and a pressure increasing element. The container defines a cavity. The seal is associated with cavity and is capable of forming a substantially continuous seal with a bathtub liner. The heating element is capable of heating the cavity, and in turn, the liner. The pressure increasing element is capable of increasing the pressure within the cavity, to in turn, force a bathtub liner outwardly, away from the cavity. Upon positioning of the liner and apparatus over an existing bathtub the pressure increasing element will force the liner toward and into contact with the surfaces of the existing bathtub.

  • Publication number: 20040139308
Abstract: A system and method are provided to allow a user to update a computer system without having to interact with an initialization, or configurator software utility, or program. More particularly, the present invention allows a system provider, manufacturer, or service provider to create an installation file that, when provided to a user, will configure a system to accommodate newly added/removed hardware automatically. A base model and a new model of the system are maintained. The new model will include one or more different configurations, such as new graphics adapters, communications adapters, I/O controllers, or the like. The provider will have created a recovery/install image to be used with the base model. An operating system including a configurator program will be running on both the base model system and new model system. Software, such as device drivers, to be used with the new model's changed hardware configuration is installed on the new model system and initialized using its configurator program.

  • Patent number: 6726796
Abstract: A system and method for transporting an adhesive side of a sheet media, particularly a sheet media having an adhesive side with an encapsulated adhesive ruptured by an activator unit. This activation unit can include one or more of the following: a pressure roller, a pair of pressure rollers, an activator blade, a set of rotatable discs or a series of sets of rotatable discs. A sheet media having an encapsulated adhesive is fed past the activator unit in the system and method, whereby the capsules will be ruptured and the adhesive side of the sheet media is activated. A release liner device such as a belt or roll of releasable sheet media transports the activated sheet media throughout subsequent process steps, e.g. label printing, cutting, die casting, etc.

  • Patent number: 6711294
Abstract: Data is received from a memory, which includes bitmap images, for output on an output device. The images may be stored in compressed or uncompressed form. The operating system, application or generic graphics environment program interface, queries the printer driver for the types of image compression formats supported by the printer. If the image is available in a compatible compressed format, that compressed image is read from memory. Alternatively or in addition, the best possible compression format supported by the printer is selected from the formats available in the printer driver. The image is then loaded in a printer compatible compression format or compressed using the selected format. The image is spooled in the selected compression format. The image file may be spooled as a raw file or metafile depending on the embodiment used.

  • Publication number: 20030185009
Abstract: An electronic lighting apparatus with at least one multiple position adjustable lighting pod. Each lighting pod includes at least one variable intensity light source and a proximity sensor for detecting objects interposed between the lighting pod and a work field. Each variable intensity light source is powered by a controllable pulse width modulated power supply or other suitable power supply which can be utilized to vary the intensity of the light source. In response to detection of an object interposed between a particular lighting pod and the work surface, the power to that lighting pod is increased, increasing the illumination of the work field. Alternatively, power to that lighting pod may be decreased and power to alternate lighting pods is increased, thereby minimizing shadows within the work field.

  • Publication number: 20030090692
Abstract: A method for serving an image from a server to a client, e.g., a computer having a browser or other graphics viewing engine. The user of the client first specifies a set of one or more bitmap characteristics for an image transfer, with at least one of the bitmap characteristics including a number of bits per pixel. Preferably, this specification is accomplished using an applet or other piece of code that is downloaded to the client from the server. Later, when the server receives a client request that includes data identifying a specified bitmap characteristic, a server processing routine (e.g., a servlet) generates a version of the image that conforms to the specified bitmap characteristic. This version is then delivered back to the client in response to the original request. In this way, the user of the client machine can control the particular characteristics of the image files that are delivered to his or her machine.
