  • Publication number: 20230062018
Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition comprising a 1,3-selective enzymatic intraesterified oil product having a greater unsaturated-saturated-unsaturated (USU) fatty acid content on the glycerol moiety than the oil from which it was derived. In an embodiment, the starting oil is cottonseed oil and in USU the U is primarily linoleic acid and the S is primarily palmitic acid. Further, the present invention relates to a method for increasing the USU content in an oil, comprising performing 1,3-selective enzymatic intraesterification of a regular starting oil wherein saturated-unsaturated-saturated (SUS) content is greater than the USU content in the starting oil prior to performing 1,3-selective enzymatic intraesterification. Due to the greater USU content, the 1,3-selective enzymatic intraesterified oil product has an increased melting temperature and solid fat content and therefore useful for margarines and food spreads as compared to the oil it was produced from.

  • Publication number: 20040134855
Abstract: A process for separation of components of vegetable oils is disclosed. The process utilizes a silica column of a particular size that allows for sufficient sample size and separation to provide good reproducibility, and also provides for quantitation of the polar and non-polar components of the oils. Samples are eluted from the silica column using a petroleum ether:diethyl ether solution of approximately 87:13.

  • Publication number: 20030212381
Abstract: The present invention is an enteral tube feeding device having a main housing with a pump mechanism, a valving mechanism, drives and controls for pumping fluid through flexible tubing located within the main housing and functionally connected to a “Y” tubing component. The “Y” tubing component is located within the main housing with the base of the “Y” tubing component being functionally connected to the pump so as to pump fluid toward the bottom of the “Y” tubing component, the “Y” tubing component having a left upper portion and a right upper portion, each being adapted for connection to separate fluid supply sources.

  • Patent number: 5987978
Abstract: An apparatus for determining the depth of a tire tread includes a radiation source for illuminating the tread of a tire, the direction of the illumination being non-normal with respect to the local surface of a portion of a tire under inspection, at least one detector responsive to radiation reflected from the tire, and a data processor responsive to the at least one detector for calculating the tread depth. In one embodiment, differences in displacement between radiation reflected from the top surface of a tread and radiation reflected from the bottom surface of a tread are measured to determine tread depth. In a second embodiment, the shadow cast by the top surface of the tread over the bottom surface of the tread is measured to determine tread depth. A third embodiment employs a sheet of radiation with varying wavelength to determine the tread depth.

  • Patent number: 5426312
Abstract: An asymmetric Fabry-Perot modulator comprises a multiple quantum well (MQW) p-i-n diode (8, 10, 12) defined by a front surface of reflectivity 0.3 and back surface of reflectivity 0.95. The cavity length L is such that resonance occurs close to the long wavelength side of the unbiased MQW absorption edge so that application of a bias signal to the MQW (12) causes the reflectivity of the cavity to become close to zero. This arrangement provides a high contrast modulator less sensitive to temperature variations and deviations from ideal reflectivities of the front and back surfaces than high-finesse Fabry-Perot modulators.

  • Patent number: 5202897
Abstract: An asymmetric Fabry Perot (FP) modulator includes a quantum well structure having wider (approximately 150 .ANG.) than usual (about 100 .ANG.) wells. The FP cavity has a resonance at a wavelength of an excitonic absorption peak of the QW structure. Although the maximum change in absorption under applied bias is less with 150 .ANG. wells than with 100 .ANG. wells, the characteristics of the electroabsorption are also altered, with the result that the largest change occurs at the wavelength of the band-edge el-hhl exciton at zero bias. Absorption can be reduced by biasing the QW and hence the AFPM can have a normally-off (zero bias, zero reflectivity) characteristic. Such an arrangement makes possible higher contrast modulation and/or lower operating voltages. The FP modulator may be used in SEEDs.
