Publication number: 20030106363Abstract: A gas chromatography system having a computer-controlled venting valve system that delivers pressurized pulses to a column junction point of two series-coupled columns having different stationary-phase chemistries and a method of using the same. Each pressurized pulse causes a differential change in the carrier gas velocities in the two columns, which lasts for the duration of the pressurized pulse. Whereby, the pressurized pulse selectively increases the separation of a component pair that exhibits separation at the exit of the first column, but otherwise co-elutes from the column ensemble.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 22, 2002Publication date: June 12, 2003Inventors: Richard Douglas Sacks, Tincuta Maria Veriotti, Megan Ellen McGuigan, Joshua Jonathan Mark Whiting

Publication number: 20020115027Abstract: A method and system for environmental control in film processing is disclosed. In general, photographic film is coated with a processing solution, such as a developer solution, and is then developed within a controlled air environment. In the preferred embodiments, the temperature and humidity within the air environment is strictly controlled, which allows the development process to be more accurately and consistently controlled. This also allows fewer processing chemicals to be used and reduces harmful effluents caused by photographic film processing.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2001Publication date: August 22, 2002Inventors: Mark White, Angela Cheng, Paul N. Patent number: 5697105Abstract: A facial mask eliminates odors from the exhalation of a wearer while permitting detection by the wearer of odors a the surrounding environment. In the preferred embodiment, the invention takes the form of an air permeable facial covering disposed over the mouth and nose of the wearer, including elements for absorbing exhalation odors impregnated therein. At least one single direction inlet valve is disposed in the air permeable facial covering thereby providing an incoming air passageway through which ambient air may pass without passing through the means for absorbing exhalation odors. Elements for securing the perimeter of the air permeable facial covering to the wearer, such as an elastic band, is provided so that the exhalation of the wearer must pass through the elements for absorbing exhalation odors and may not escape around the perimeter of the air permeable facial covering.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1996Date of Patent: December 16, 1997Inventor: Mark White
