  • Publication number: 20130025403
Abstract: A camshaft assembly for extending duration of a valve event including a hollow outer shaft, an inner shaft received within the hollow outer shaft, a plurality of cam lobes, and a phaser located between the plurality of cam lobes approximately in the middle of the inner and outer shaft.

  • Publication number: 20070037647
Abstract: A tensioner for imparting tension to a chain having a body, a resilient chain guide element a support member and at least one blade spring. The body contains at least one groove on its surface adjacent to the resilient chain guide for containing a blade spring in compression. The length of the blade spring is less than the length of the support member.

  • Publication number: 20070037646
Abstract: A closed loop chain tensioner system having a drive sprocket, one or more driven sprockets, a first mechanical tensioner located adjacent a slack strand and a second mechanical tensioner located adjacent a tight strand. Each tensioner is independently pivotally mounted to the engine block. The mounting point may be located at any point along the length of each tensioner. The tensioners are then linked to each other by a rigid, solid link. This solid link enables the tensioners to act in unison, thus providing damping across both strands of chain in response to engine torsional variations.

  • Publication number: 20060247080
Abstract: A tensioner for imparting tension to a chain in a closed loop chain drive system of an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The tensioner contains two tensioning devices, one for each strand of chain that traverses between a drive sprocket and at least one driven sprocket. The two tensioning devices are installed on a single bracket which is mounted to the engine housing at a single dampened pivot mount. The pivot mount is positioned equidistant from the mid points along the lengths of each of the chain sliding surfaces of each of the tensioning devices to substantially form an isosceles triangle.

  • Patent number: 6772721
Abstract: A phaser for maintaining an angular relationship between a crank shaft and a cam shaft or among more than one cam shafts is provided. The phaser includes a rotor having a plurality of vanes integral to the rotor and protruding from the rotor body. The plurality of vanes is disposed to oscillate within their respective chambers formed by the rotor and a housing, thereby maintaining the angular relationship. The phaser also includes a shoulder integral to the rotor and interposed between one of the pluralities of vanes and the rotor body, thereby ensuring that the rotor face is always covering a locking pin hole regardless of vane position. The phaser further includes an inlet check valve located within the phaser structure or in very close proximity to the phaser, thereby reducing control fluid leakage.

  • Patent number: 6302816
Abstract: A guide or tensioner arm including a bracket made from a formed sheet metal stamping. The bracket is formed of a body portion with a series of tabs formed along a bottom edge. The tabs are bent perpendicular to the body portion of the bracket in an alternating fashion. This forms a bracket having a T-shape providing a flat base for mounting a plastic shoe. Since the body portion is centered with respect to the alternating tabs a strong bracket for holding the plastic shoe is provided to guide or tension an associated strand of chain in a power transmission system.

  • Patent number: 5993342
Abstract: A hydraulic tensioner having a pre-loaded spring at the upper end of the piston to reduce the peak operating loads in a timing chain system. The spring member is located between the primary piston and an upper secondary piston.
