Abstract: The disclosed embodiments include a system and method for providing communication services that enables a customer to deactivate service when the service is not being used and reactivate the service when the service is being used. This process can save the customer money without the hassle of having to contact a service provider to cancel and reinstall communication services repeatedly. In addition, the customer can maintain consistent service such as, but not limited to, maintaining his/her calling number, maintaining contact information, speed dial information, saved voicemails or recordings, and other user personalized settings.

Abstract: A broadband digital loop carrier and method for distributing communications signals to customers of a service provider may include a multi-service access platform unit and line termination unit in communication with the multi-service access platform unit. In one embodiment, the line termination unit is a multiplexer. The line termination unit may be configured to operate communications equipment that operates at bandwidths that are lower than cards operating in the multi-service access platform unit.

Abstract: A system and method for providing travel-related information. A calendar application is monitored for travel-related appointments. Travel-related information associated with a location of the travel-related appointment is retrieved in response to identifying the travel-related appointment. The travel-related information including travel time information is automatically updated in response to determining there are changes to the travel-related information. The travel-related information is communicated to a user. The travel-related information is communicated again in response to automatically updating the travel-related information.

The customer may be billed for the wireline telephone service. In one embodiment, the customer is billed a premium service charge when the wireline telephone service is active and a lower service charge when the wireline telephone service is inactive.

An operation corresponding to the voice-command is determined and performed. The operation may perform an operation on a remote device, forward the voice-command to a remote device, or notify a user.
