Patent number: 9298675Abstract: Legacy documents may be imported into online electronic document systems in a form in which the document is broken up into a collection discrete sub-documents. Styles are read from the legacy document and analyzed according to one or a number of factors, such as number of instances, combinations with other styles, and the like. Based on the analysis of the various styles, a set of styles is presented to a user to select style-based breakpoints to use in dividing the legacy document. As the system converts the legacy document from its source format into a designated target format, document managing functionality applies the selected breakpoints in the target formatted document according to the designated breakpoints. The system then generates a style sheet for the converted document including the style information for that document.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2004Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Assignee: Adobe Systems IncorporatedInventors: Mark Wineman, Yizhen Jiang, Dazheng Wang

Publication number: 20140250361Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for defining a document construct in a text-readable document converted from a graphic-represented document. In operation, the graphic-represented document is rendered in memory of a computer operating the system and method. A plurality of horizontal and vertical lines are established across the whitespace in the graphic-represented document, such that the lines do not touch any graphics on the graphic-represented document. Regions within the document that are defined by the intersections of the horizontal and vertical lines are then analyzed for patterns or other indicia of a document construct. When such a construct is determined, construct indicators are inserted within the data describing the graphic-represented document as it is converted into the text-readable document.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2004Publication date: September 4, 2014Applicant: Macromedia, Inc.Inventors: Mark Wineman, Yizhen Jiang, Dazheng Wang

Patent number: 8516077Abstract: A system and method for incorporating software modules into a website or other information source that is searchable and updateable, which helps to create a dynamic user assistance environment. The system searches based on context/category sensitive natural language requests. This dynamic environment becomes “smarter” over time and will track questions and answers by a number of methods to assure the answers are up to date and that there is a high confidence match for the user's inquiry. The entire collection of data resides in a centralized location where the information can be leveraged to answer a user's question and aid in the creation of question/answer pairs for later use. Additionally, the assistance system supports a method for incorporating new informational content and answers to unanswered questions, for example by authorized support persons, that are categorized and stored in the existing system for later reference and use.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2010Date of Patent: August 20, 2013Assignee: Adobe Systems IncorporatedInventors: Ronald A. Linyard, Arlyn Asch, Jonas Salling, Brian C. Sparks, Arie Trouw, Mark Wineman

Patent number: 8209608Abstract: The present invention provides an interactive multimedia system for providing structured information systems, for example help systems for desktop and network based applications. The invention employs an interactive multimedia runtime container and rich media content and other data files for the structured system navigational components such as the Table of Contents (TOC), Index, Search, and Glossary. In another aspect, the invention provides a structured navigation interface through the use of rich media files driven by data files which allow the user or the author to create a customized appearance for the structured information system. The system is advantageously cross-browser and cross-platform compatible and ensures consistent navigation and look and feel across platforms and browsers.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2004Date of Patent: June 26, 2012Assignee: Adobe Systems IncorporatedInventors: Ronald A Linyard, Mark Wineman, Erik Digre, Theodore G. Publication number: 20010033294Abstract: A system and method for tracking access and usage of a help system. The system the invention tracks and records all movements of the user within the help system. Tracking usage patterns helps identify trouble spots within the website. One factor tracked and recorded is the point in the transaction, for example, at which the user required help. Additionally, the help system tracks and records each search request from the user and the help topics selected by the user. Further, the help system tracks and records whether the user successfully resolved the problem and completed the transaction or abandoned the site. For identification and categorization of the user, the help system tracks and records data such as the type of browser used by the user, the user's IP address and the site referring the user to the current website. Additional information may be tracked and recorded as needed.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2001Publication date: October 25, 2001Inventors: Arlyn Asch, Ronald A.
