Abstract: An implantable flow meter device for measuring flow rate of a body fluid through a tube, such as a catheter and/or a ventriculoperitoneal (“VP”) shunt, comprising a flow meter attachment, in aspects attachable to pre-existing tubes, VP shunts, catheters, and/or peritoneal catheters systems, providing for the capability for physicians to obtain information about the status of the flow rate of the body fluid through the tube. The flow meter can include temperature sensors measuring the body fluid at a first and second position, as well as a heating element applying heat to the body fluid therebetween. A controller can receive the first temperature, the second temperature, and a heat value relating to the heat applied to the body fluid by the heating element, such that a processing device can calculate a flow rate of the body fluid based thereon.

Abstract: A ventricular shunt device, such as a ventriculoperitoneal (“VP”) shunt, comprising an electromagnetic flow meter attachment, in aspects attachable to pre-existing peritoneal catheters systems, providing for the capability for physicians to obtain information about the status of the VP shunt and its functionality. Due to the high failure rate of current shunt catheters and the associated dangers with shunt failure, the need for real-time monitoring is ever present. A Halbach cylinder or other electromagnetic system or array is implemented to generate a magnetic field to observe flow rates through the peritoneal catheter to serve certain functions, as well as associated applications and verification of the device in computational and experimental settings.

A variety of printing processes may be used to print registered color separation images on the belting member. These processes include silkscreen, flexographic and offset printing. The belting members may be made in lengths shorter than the entire length of the conveyor belt with removable attachment means, permitting individual advertising images to be replaced without replacing the entire conveyor belt. Methods for fabricating the belting members including ink formulations, handling and drying steps are also described.
