    Abstract: A heat exchanger has an outer shell enclosing an inner chamber and extending between a first inlet and a first outlet. The chamber receives a separating wall. The shell extends between axial ends, and generally along a helix. The helix is defined with the wall moving in a continuous manner along a first axial direction and with a circumferential component between the first inlet and the first outlet. A plurality of tubes extend through openings in the separating wall and generally along a helix. The plurality of tubes extend from a second inlet and a second outlet, and with the helix defined along the first axial direction and with a component in a circumferential direction. A method and a temperature control system are also disclosed.

A reinforcing bar is received within a channel of the closure bar to create an interface with substantially no gaps that may accumulate moisture within the core assembly. The prevention of moisture accumulation at the interface between the reinforcing bar and the closure bar prevents potential damage caused by freezing.

    Abstract: A water separator is provided for use in an environmental control system that includes first and second housing portions at least partially defining an interior cavity. A coalescer assembly that may include a mesh material is disposed within the interior cavity for separating water from the air flowing through the interior cavity. First and second interlocking features, which may include a plurality of circumferentially arranged tabs received in the slots of circumferentially arranged flanges, secure the housing portions together. The tabs and flanges interlock with one another in response to moving the first and second housings relative to one another from and open position to a closed position in which the housing portions are secured to another. In this manner, V-band coupling of the prior art may be eliminated and the service time of the water separator may be reduced.

    Abstract: A composite parting sheet is disclosed for separating hot and cold layers in a heat exchanger core. Known parting sheets being primarily aluminum are subject to leakage due to corrosion and failure resulting from thermal fatigue stress. The composite sheet of the present invention includes a first aluminum outer layer, a second aluminum outer layer and a central metallic layer between and in contact with the first and second aluminum outer layers so that the central metallic layer comprises a continuous, uninterrupted layer between the first and second outer layers, and the central metallic layer is a metal that is more noble than aluminum, such as nickel. Corrosion penetrating either of the outer layers to produce a pin hole preferentially corrodes aluminum over the central metallic layer. Therefore, the corrosion expands sideways upon contact with the central metallic layer, and the pin hole does not penetrate the layer or the parting sheet, thereby inhibiting corrosion induced leakage.
