  • Patent number: 7011267
Abstract: In paper winding, separate rolls are formed side by side around roll cores (10a, 10b) placed one after the other while supported by support members. The cores are pressed at their ends against one another by core chucks (20) arranged in connection with the free ends of the outermost roll cores (10a, 10b). The roll cores (10a, 10b) are placed in a desired position and subjected to a desired compression force by the core chucks (20), the length of the row of roll cores (10a, 10b) is determined, and the compression force of at least one core chuck (20) is regulated during winding when the length of the roll core row changes to keep the compression force and/or the length of the roll core row within desired limits.

  • Patent number: 6926224
Abstract: A web is wound onto a core (21) while supported by winding drums (11, 12). The web is cut by a cutting device (19), and a finished web roll (10) is removed by a transfer device (16). A new core (21) is moved to a space between the winding drums (11, 12), and the winding is stopped to remove the finished roll (10) and to start a new roll. The core is moved onto support of one winding drum and a support member (22) and held in place by the support member (22) until the movable winding drum (11, 12) has been moved to the starting position of winding.

  • Patent number: 6817564
Abstract: When the setting of a web slitter winder blades (41, 42) is changed during slitting in order to slit component webs (Wo) of different widths, the width of the edge trimming formed changes and an untrimmed neck remains between the edge trimmings of different widths. A cutting apparatus (50) makes a cut between the slitting line of an edge trimming according to an old blade setting and the slitting line of an edge trimming according to a new blade setting controlled by a control system (59).

  • Patent number: 5269846
Abstract: A deflection-compensated doctor blade beam of a coater used for coating web materials. The doctor blade beam comprises a box-section frame (3), together with a holder (2) of the doctor blade (8), and a support tube (4) placed inside the frame (3). The support tube (4) is backed against the frame (3) preferably with three asymmetrically placed compensating elements (5), which advantageously are pressurized hoses. The deflection of the doctor blade beam is accomplished by varying the volume of the compensating elements (5) through pressure alterations in the elements. A displacement of desired direction can be achieved by differentially pressurizing the three compensating elements (5). By using this apparatus, the deflection of the doctor blade can be compensated to full straightness. The compensating system is controlled with the help of a feedback loop using data from a direct measurement of beam deflection, or alternatively, from the coat thickness profile.
