  • Patent number: 8995335
Abstract: A method for communicating between nodes in a communication system. Communicating in a first node in a radio access network and a second node in a core network using messages associated with a first set of operations connecting the first node to the core network. Communicating in the first node with other nodes of the radio access network using messages associated with a second set of operations connecting the radio access network nodes. Communicating in the first node with a third node using messages associated with a third set of operations, the third set of operations providing at least part of the operations provided by the first and second set of operations. The scalability of the core network nodes is enhanced when the number of the radio access network nodes connecting to the core network nodes increases.

  • Patent number: 8971798
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program for authenticating a newly activated local area base station in a cellular network is presented. The newly activated local area base station, associated with a sub-cell located within a coverage area of a wide area base station of a cellular telecommunication system, is paired with the wide area base station on the basis of information enabling identification of the wide area base station and originating from the local area base station. Then, transfer of a radio communication identifier to the local area base station is arranged over a wired connection.

  • Patent number: 8954078
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program for continuing transmission during handover are presented. A communication connection is established between a source base station and a mobile relay base station comprising a distributed antenna system (DAS). The DAS includes multiple spatially distributed antenna units (DAUs), wherein at least part of the DAUs are used for forming a cluster of sub-cells within a coverage area of the mobile relay base station and at least part of the DAUs are used for communicating with a fixed cellular network infrastructure over multiple backhaul links. A first backhaul link is then handed over from the source base station to a target base station. After the handover, data transfer between the source base station and at least one backhaul link still linked to the source base station is continued, and remaining backhaul link(s) are released from the source base station according to a determined criterion.

  • Patent number: 8867410
Abstract: A simple and effective mechanism is shown to determine and utilize information about idle user equipment which received MBMS services for purposes of audience monitoring. The implementation can be done by defining a new information element (IE) for a proposed MBMS status information and embedding the new IE into a UE-originated message of a network control signaling procedure, e.g., RRC Connection Request which may be sent at the convenience of the UE when it transitions from the idle state to the active state for its own purposes, i.e., purposes primarily other than audience monitoring.

  • Patent number: 8831596
Abstract: The present invention concerns mobility management. A method is proposed that involves obtaining mobility management properties for a plurality of terminals served by an access node, as well as grouping the plurality of terminals into groups based on correlating the obtained mobility management properties of the plurality of terminals. Decisions on the necessity for a handover are taken per group and then forwarded per group to a target access node. Also, a corresponding apparatus is proposed.

  • Patent number: 8824958
Abstract: Providing connections to terminals in an access node of a first network. A message is received in the access node from a terminal, the message including capability information of the terminal. The terminal is identified in the access node on the basis of the received capability information as an intermediary node capable of relaying traffic between the first network and a second network. Parameters for a connection between the access node and the terminal are determined in the access node on the basis of the identification of the terminal as intermediary node and used in establishing the connection between the access node and the terminal.

  • Patent number: 8798654
Abstract: It is provided a method, including deciding, based on a previously estimated interference value, whether a user equipment or a sounding reference signal or a channel of a received uplink signal is affected by a colored interference more than a first predefined threshold, wherein colored interference is an interference having a spatial and/or spectral predominance; and suppressing interference rejection combining on the uplink signal if none of the user equipment, the sounding reference signal, and the channel of the received uplink signal is affected more than the first predefined threshold.

  • Publication number: 20130322581
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatuses, methods, a system, computer programs, computer program products and computer-readable media. Matched-filtered samples are conveyed instead of antenna samples, so that data rates in the interface between a remote radio head and the BTS or base band hotel may be lower. For detecting data, the matched filtered data samples are processed by using information on the radio channel.
