  • Patent number: 6678314
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and circuitry for determining a spreading factor in a communication system with variable data rates. In such a system the received signal may include a plurality of data symbols that are spread in the transmission signal in a manner that is defined by a spreading code and a spreading factor, the spreading factor being one of a plurality of possible spreading factors. In accordance with the method, the received signal is processed so as to produce signal outputs which are cleared from the effects of the spreading code, autocorrelation values are computed for the signal outputs, and the spreading factor is determined based on the computed autocorrelation values.

  • Publication number: 20030179814
Abstract: A receiver arranged to receive a plurality of spread spectrum signals including a first spread spectrum signal from which interference caused by one or more others of said plurality of signals is to be removed, wherein at last one of said other spread spectrum signals has a spreading factor which is unknown to said receiver. The receiver comprises means for estimating a spreading factor of said at least one other spread spectrum signal having an unknown spreading factor, said estimating means selecting the spreading factor to be smallest possible spreading factor, means for despreading said at least one other spread spectrum signal using said estimated spreading factor, and means for estimating interference in the first spread spectrum signal caused by said at least one other spread spectrum signal.

  • Patent number: 5881097
Abstract: A receiving method and a receiver comprising circuit elements that are arranged to calculate estimates for parameters of a received signal in two or more stages, for processing the signal iteratively by means of an observation time-slot of a given length and containing a plurality of samples, and for sliding the observation time-slot over the received samples. In order to avoid complicated matrix operations, the receiver comprises circuit elements for sliding the observation time-slot in such a way that successive observation time-slots partly overlap, and for employing, upon calculating the estimates and decisions of parameters in each observation time-slot, estimates provided by the previous observation time-slot as initial values for those samples that fall within the previous observation time-slot, and estimates provided by the previous stage for those samples that do not fall within the previous observation time-slot.
