Abstract: A manner of facilitating over-the-air downloading of media objects to devices using browser-independent download user agents. A browser is provided at the communication device to facilitate user discovery of network services offering downloadable content. A download user agent is provided, which is configured as a plug-in capable of communicating with the browser via a plug-in API. The download user agent plug-in initiates requests to retrieve downloadable content, and does so via the plug-in API and browser. The content is retrieved by the browser on behalf of the download user agent plug-in, whereby the download user agent plug-in can install the content on the communication device.
