  • Patent number: 6955107
Abstract: Support and positioning means (10) and a cutting head (13) supported on them extend in the operating position of the area of the edge part (14?) of a paper web (14). In the cutting head (13), there is a support surface (16) and at least one nozzle (17), which is set in such a way that the edge part (14?) travels between the support surface (16) and the nozzle (15). The equipment includes mechanical cleaning means (20) and/or a cleaning construction (21) for keeping the support surfaces (16) clean. The cleaning means (20) and/or cleaning construction (21) are arranged on the opposite side of the paper web (14) to the nozzle (17).

  • Patent number: 6916404
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for web threading in a drying section of a paper machine or the like. A leader (24) and a so called run-down strip are formed by cutting in the web coming to the drying cylinder in the drying section. An underpressure box (18) is arranged at the opening gap between the drying cylinder (14) and the drying wire, on that side of the wire which is away from the web, whereby this box can direct against the web an underpressure which is controllable in the machine's cross direction. The underpressure box creates an underpressure region (34?) between the leader and the underpressure box, the region having an underpressure p1 at the detachment point, i.e. in the area where the wire is detached from said drying cylinder (14), which underpressure is sufficient to detach the leader from said drying cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6772533
Abstract: A multi-cylinder dryer of a paper machine, has at least one drying cylinder (10) and at least one roll (11, 12) located at a different height to the cylinder and at a distance to it in the machine direction. A paper web (14) travels from the drying cylinder (10) to this roll (11, 12). Dry air is brought to the dryer through a beam (13) located in front of the web (14) in the machine direction, the air is directed by means of nozzles (33) in the beam into a throat (21) between the drying cylinder (10) and the web (14) mainly to intensify the drying effect. A doctor (27) keeps the surface of the drying cylinder clean. The beam (13) forms with the roll (12) a smooth, high channel (25), at least on the side of the roll (12), for the passage of the web during a disturbance.

  • Patent number: 4832794
Abstract: Method and apparatus for compensating bending of a lip beam in a paper machine when papermaking pulp flowing through the slice formed with the lip beam causes loading upon a bottom surface of the top lip beam. The bending of the beam caused by the loading is compensated by bending the lip beam in the opposite direction, by creating a temperature difference in the lip beam between a top part and a bottom part of the same.

  • Patent number: 4804441
Abstract: Method and apparatus in the headbox of a paper machine and in its approach pipe system. In the headbox, pulp suspension is fed through the approach pipe system and a pressure screen arrangement, if any, to a distributing header part, from which the pulp suspension flow is conducted through a turbulence generator section and further to a lip section. A pulp suspension jet is discharged from a lip aperture of the lip section onto a forming wire or into a throat defined by a pair of forming wires. At least part of the approach pipe system, the distribution header part, and the turbulence generator section are arranged to have two or several substantially parallel pulp suspension flow passages. The different passages operate substantially simultaneously in parallel, when the headbox has been set to operate in a higher flow rate range.

  • Patent number: 4687548
Abstract: Method and apparatus in the head box of a paper machine for controlling the distortion of fibre orientation in the paper web comprise an arrangement wherein by-pass flows of pulp suspension are passed through opposite passages lateral of the turbulence generator preceding the slice portion or discharge channel of the head box. The magnitude and/or the mutual relationship of the by-pass flows is adjusted to control the distortion of the fibre orientation in that the by-pass flows produce a transverse flow in the discharge flow of the pulp suspension from the head box, the speed of which compensates for the distortion of the fibre orientation.
