  • Patent number: 7616255
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software product for a single motor/actuator adjustment of two assemblies (e.g., for performing zoom and auto-focus functions) for image adjustment using a clutch unit (e.g., a switch) in image adjustment modules of electronic devices. The clutch unit can be used to engage one of two lead screws having a common axis one at a time with a driving shaft (e.g., having the same common axis), so these two lead screws can operate independently in order to provide adjustments of the two assemblies.

  • Patent number: 7158634
Abstract: A portable electronic device (100) has a cover part (102) carrying a display (112) connected to a base part (104) carrying a keyboard (118) by means of a hinge arrangement (106). The cover part can move relatively to the base part from a closed configuration to an open configuration. The hinge arrangement comprises a plurality of elongate connecting elements (122, 124, 126, 128) connected at one end to the cover part and at another end to the base part. Each connecting element is relatively moveable about a first axis of rotation (134, 138) with respect to the cover part and relatively moveable about a second axis of rotation (136, 140) with respect to the base part. In moving from the closed configuration to the open configuration, the cover part is able to rotate about the first axis of rotation and move about the second axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 6993128
Abstract: A portable electronic device (MS) has a user interface (DPL1) that is protected by a motorized slide (SL1). The device has a first slide (SL1) which is moveable between positions in which it protects and exposes the user interface (DPL1). The slide is driven by an epicyclical gear which is, in turn, driven by an electrical motor. The epicyclical gear gears down a rotational speed provided by the motor into a rotational speed that is suitable for driving the slide.

  • Patent number: 6762748
Abstract: The invention discloses a low profile input device for moving a cursor, scrolling a page, or selecting a function on a display of a handheld device. In an embodiment of the invention, a planar joystick (402,940) for use moving a cursor on the display of a handheld device comprises a movable sliding button having a first magnet M1 embedded therein. The button is slid by a user's finger over a second magnet M2, an action that distorts the magnetic flux 418 which is detected by a plurality of magnetic flux sensors 420. The direction and magnitude of the cursor movement on the display correspond to the change in flux caused by the movement of the sliding button.

  • Patent number: 6748249
Abstract: A portable electronic device, which has a slidingly attached touch screen (DPL1) and a sliding lid (SL1) also slidingly installed on top of the touch screen. A keyboard (KB1) is installed on top of the sliding lid. In a normal state, the display of the device is partly covered by the sliding lid and, thus, protected by the sliding lid against mechanical stress. When necessary, the display can be revealed by moving the sliding lid away from the display, whereupon a cogging (R1) made on the bottom of the sliding lid rotates a cogwheel (CW1), attached inside the device, that touches the cogging. The cogwheel transmits the movement of the sliding lid to a movement that is opposite to that of the sliding lid of the display, through a gear rack R2 attached to the display.

  • Patent number: 6510588
Abstract: A turning mechanism for providing a turning motion, and a hinged electronic device. The turning mechanism comprises a power element which is arranged to generate the turning force for the turning motion, and a damping element which is arranged to control the speed of the turning motion. The damping element comprises a substantially cylindrical casing inside of which a spindle is mounted using a clearance fit. The power element is connected with respect to the spindle to allow the spindle to rotate inside the casing along with the turning motion. The clearance fit between the casing and the spindle is provided with an elastic medium which controls the motion of the spindle with respect to the casing and dampens the stopping of the turning motion.

  • Patent number: 6483051
Abstract: A method in the manufacture of a keyboard for an electronic device, the keyboard comprising a set of separate key caps fitted next to each other for transferring pressings, wherein each key cap is further attached to a common base. In the method, the key caps are separated from a solid piece by laser cutting, the piece being simultaneously attached to said base in such a way that the pieces to be separated from the piece, of which each represents one of said key caps, remain attached to said base even after the cutting.
