The set of placement options are determined based on at least one of the following: area type of the area in which the new report object is requested to be placed and a semantic relationship between the new report object and the one or more existing report objects. In one embodiment, the area of the report includes a sub-area. The set of placement options for a sub-area is determined based on the semantic relationship of new report objects and the existing report objects associated with the area and the sub-area.
