Patent number: 7933290Abstract: A service translation proxy provides a variety of translation services during the service discovery and subsequent service consumption phase. The service translation proxy receives a service request in accordance with one particular Service Description Protocol (SDP) and optionally translates the service request into the correct SDP as required using the appropriate service discovery interface. In addition, session description, session media, and session transport translations are implemented by the service translation proxy as required to support the service.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2004Date of Patent: April 26, 2011Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventor: Markus Aholainen

Patent number: 7589726Abstract: The method disclosed gives the user rapid notice of those Bluetooth devices within communication range, and yet it selectively blocks any notice about Bluetooth devices that the user wishes to ignore. Bluetooth server devices can indicate to the user's Bluetooth client device the service the server device has available by sending service/device icon information to Bluetooth client device. This information can be a value in the class-of-device (CoD) field of a frequency hop synchronization (FHS) packet that it sends during the process of exchanging inquiry and paging packets with the Bluetooth client device. If the server device has begun by transmitting an inquiry packet, then the CoD value will be sent in its paging packet. If the server device is responding to an inquiry, then its CoD value will be in its inquiry response packet. Alternately, the service/device icon information can be sent after a connection has been made with the client device, as part of a Service Discovery Protocol (SDP) response packet.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2004Date of Patent: September 15, 2009Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Markus Aholainen, Arto Palin

Patent number: 7565158Abstract: A wireless mobile terminal allows a user to control receiving of location based push-type transmissions using a menu driven interface. The terminal includes a storage device maintaining dedicated push pages, wherein the pages are used when receiving location based push-type transmissions by the terminal. A controller activates a short range RF transceiver module using a selected dedicated push page, which enables reception of selected location, based push-type transmissions when the push information matches the dedicated push page in the terminal.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2002Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventor: Markus Aholainen

Patent number: 7421732Abstract: Generic Internet Protocol (IP) authentication is provided by authentication server (134). Application Programming Interface (API) (310) detects the protocol type of an incoming authentication request and invokes one of a number of authentication mechanisms (318-326) depending on the protocol type detected. A localized repository (520) is provided to store Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) information and other algorithm data as required to facilitate the authentication session.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2003Date of Patent: September 2, 2008Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Jose Costa-Requena, Jukka Immonen, Markus Aholainen, Juha Hietasarka, Ossi Korhonen, Jussi Ruutu

Patent number: 7280832Abstract: A method and corresponding equipment providing automatic bearer selection so that a user of a telecommunications device (11) can establish a connection with another user without having to indicate a bearer to use, i.e. in case the other user is reachable using different bearers (communication technologies) such as Bluetooth, UTRAN or WLAN, and even in case the other user can be reached via more than one telecommunication device. To enable a device (11) to automatically select a bearer for providing a connection (14) to a second device (12), the method includes: a step (24) in which the first device (11) refers to a contacts bearer data store (11d 11d?) accessible to the first device (11) to obtain a list of at least two possible bearers for providing the connection (14); and a step (28) in which the first device (11) selects one of the at least two possible bearers based on a predetermined selection strategy (11b).Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2003Date of Patent: October 9, 2007Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Markus Aholainen, Holger Hussmann

Bluetooth server devices can indicate to the user's Bluetooth client device the service the server device has available by sewing service/device icon information to Bluetooth client device. This information can be a value in the class-of-device (CoD) field of a frequency hop synchronization (FHS) packet that it sends during the process of exchanging inquiry and paging packets with the Bluetooth client device. Publication number: 20050071459Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method is disclosed for providing media session descriptors. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a method of initiating a multimedia session via a computing arrangement involves forming a request for a session descriptor usable for initiating the multimedia session. The request is communicated to a session descriptor module of the computing arrangement. A session descriptor is formed based on a set of multimedia session parameters of the computing arrangement. The session descriptor is communicated from the session descriptor module, and the multimedia session is initiated using the session descriptor.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 26, 2003Publication date: March 31, 2005Inventors: Jose Costa-Requena, Ossi Korhonen, Jussi Ruutu, Jukka Immonen, Markus Aholainen, Jari Selin, Juha Hietasarka
