  • Publication number: 20110291853
Abstract: The method for initiating of shutting down a wind energy turbine comprises approaching the wind energy turbine by a vehicle like an aircraft, in particular a helicopter, a car or a boat, and initiating of shutting down the wind energy turbine by means of wireless remote command signal transmitted from the vehicle when the vehicle is spaced from the wind energy turbine by a predetermined distance. The wind energy turbine comprises a rotor having at least one rotor blade, a shut down control unit for shutting down the rotor, and a receiving unit operatively connected to the shut down control unit for receiving a wireless remote shut down command signal from a helicopter being spaced from the rotor a predetermined distance.

  • Publication number: 20100092289
Abstract: A method for determining a bearing of a wind turbine comprising, receiving a signal from a satellite at a first antenna disposed on a wind turbine, receiving the signal from the satellite at a second antenna disposed on the wind turbine, determining a position of the first antenna responsive to receiving the signal, determining a position of the second antenna responsive to receiving the signal, calculating a line of bearing intersecting the position of the first antenna and the position of the second antenna, determining an angle of the line of bearing relative to a reference bearing, and defining the bearing of the wind turbine as the angle of the line of bearing relative to the reference bearing.

  • Patent number: 7608937
Abstract: A power generation system and a method for storing electrical energy are provided. The method includes generating a first AC voltage from a wind turbine generator and converting the first AC voltage to a first DC voltage, utilizing a rectifier. The method further includes routing the first DC voltage through a DC voltage bus to an inverter of the power converter, and converting the first DC voltage to a second AC voltage utilizing the inverter and outputting the second AC voltage to an electrical grid in response to a first control signal from a power converter controller. The method further includes receiving the first DC voltage from the DC voltage bus at a DC-DC converter operably coupled to the DC voltage bus, and storing electrical energy from the first DC voltage in a battery storage unit utilizing the DC-DC converter in response to a second control signal.
