Optional components include a polar solvent and a thickener. The disclosed composition is preferably in the form of an oil continuous microemulsion and is provided as a component of a liquid or spray formulation for use, depending upon the application. The disclosed cleaning agents have a low odor and satisfy the 2005 CARB VOC requirements of less than 8% by weight for oven cleaners.

Abstract: The invention relates to a cosmetic preparation containing (a) 0.1 to 30% by weight of at least one anionic, nonionic and/or amphoteric surfactant, (b) 0.05 to 20% by weight of an ?-hydroxycarboxylic acid ester of ethoxylated alcohols corresponding to formula (I): R1O(CH2CH2O)nH??(I) in which R1 is a linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl group containing 6 to 22 carbon atoms and n is a number of 1 to 50, (c) 0.005 to 1.5% by weight of at least one alkaline earth metal ion and (d) 0.1 to 3% by weight of a silicone compound, and to the use of ?-hydroxycarboxylic acid esters of ethoxylated alcohols as conditioning components and to reduce or prevent the absorption of alkyl ether sulfates onto the skin.
