  • Patent number: 6954484
Abstract: In a method for producing a channel-coded and subscriber-coded message signal, a coding device receives a message signal represented by a sequence of data symbols. The message signal is channel-coded using a channel code and is subscriber-coded using a specific subscriber code selected from a number of available subscriber codes. The specific subscriber code is selected from the subscriber codes available in a memory ME taking account of the error protection level of the channel-coded and subscriber-coded message signal to be transmitted, that is, such that an overall code formed from the channel code and the selected, specific subscriber code has a maximum Hamming distance.

  • Patent number: 6954483
Abstract: Mobile radio receivers in a mobile radio system are synchronized. A first synchronization channel is provided, which has a first frequency and via which a code which is known to all the mobile radio receivers and to all the base stations of the mobile radio system is transmitted with a signal. The transmission from a base station to a mobile radio receiver delays the signal by an unknown time period and the first frequency is displaced by the transmission to a second frequency. The method includes a correlation and sampling of the received signal, digital filtering of the correlated and sampled signal, squaring of the filtered signal, determination of the maximum signal level of the squared signal, estimation of the unknown time period with the maximum signal level, despreading of the received signal with the known code, taking into account the just-estimated time period, and fine-tuning of the second frequency to the first frequency.

  • Patent number: 6882633
Abstract: A method for synchronizing a mobile radio receiver with a frame structure of a radio signal received from a specific base station assumes that each base station transmits a predefined, individual sequence of frame synchronization codes for each frame. The synchronization codes are detected and decoded in the mobile radio receiver and a characteristic code parameter is allocated to them. The sequence transmitted by the specific base station is identified on the basis of the code parameters and the start and end times of the sequence are defined. The mobile radio receiver is frame-synchronized with these times.

  • Patent number: 6865709
Abstract: To achieve an improved disparate error protection in the transmission of coded symbols of an information stream, the information stream is supplied to a multiplicity of coding branches for coding, and is supplied in parallel, to a puncturing and multiplexing unit. Symbols of different quality classes are fed into each coding branch using a demultiplexer. An interleaver follows at least one demultiplexer for generating error protection for the filtered symbols. The symbols, which may possibly be interleaved, are coded in each coding branch and are supplied to the puncturing and multiplexing unit. The puncturing and multiplexing unit sets a predetermined coding rate.

  • Patent number: 6792036
Abstract: A method is described for estimating channel impulse responses of a mobile radio channel with a broad bandwidth by a code division multiplexing method, and with a synchronization channel continuously transmitting sequences to mobile radio receivers. The sequences are provided for synchronization of each mobile radio receiver and are known to each of the mobile radio receivers. The transmitted sequences have pilot symbols for identifying the synchronization channel, and the pilot symbols are transmitted at points that are known to the receivers within a time slot. When searching for and identifying the synchronization channel, the pilot symbols and, possibly, further symbols and sequences which are known in the receivers, are evaluated to estimate the delay times and the complex amplitudes, of the mobile radio channel responses.

  • Publication number: 20030221157
Abstract: In a method for deinterleaving a data signal interleaved in blocks in accordance with a prescribed interleaving specification, deinterleaving target addresses are calculated for a first prescribed segment of the data symbols to be deinterleaved, and are stored in a target address memory. The relevant segment of the data symbols is then deinterleaved by using the calculated target addresses. Subsequently, these two steps are repeated until the entire data block has been segmentally deinterleaved.
