  • Patent number: 5664361
Abstract: An explosive powder charge operated setting tool includes a driving piston (1) positioned in an axially extending piston guide (4) with a base surface (5) at a trailing end of the piston guide. A spacer (2) is located on the trailing end surface of the piston (1) and projects axially from its trailing end surface. The spacer (2) has a stop face (3) extending perpendicularly of the piston guide axis with a surface area smaller than the area of the base surface (5) against which it contacts.

  • Patent number: 5538172
Abstract: An explosive powder charge operated setting tool contains a channel (7) located between an inner piston guide (2) for a piston (1) and an outer housing part (6). At the rear end of the tool, the channel (7) continues in a carrier (3) and can be in communication with a cartridge receptacle (4) in the carrier (3). In its front region, the channel (7) is connected via a first opening (2c) in the piston guide (2) with a guide bore (2a) for the piston (1). Towards the rear end of the channel (7) there is a valve arrangement for forming a propellant gas storage space connected through the first opening (2c) to the guide bore (2a). Propellant gases within the storage space are compressed by the piston (1) driven in the setting direction and, after completion of the driving or setting procedure, serve to return the piston (1) back into its rear starting position by expansion of the storage space gases.

  • Patent number: 5251532
Abstract: An explosive powder charge operated setting tool has a guide channel (9) for strip-shaped cartridge clips with feed members (10) and a restraining member (15) extending into the transverse cross-section of a guide channel (9) for the cartridge clips. Blocking parts (13, 14) are located at the insertion end region of the guide channel (9). The blocking parts (10, 11) are displaced outwardly from one another out of the guide channel (9) by insertion bevels (8c, 8d) on the end of the cartridge inserted first into the guide channel, so that the cartridge clip (8) can be pushed further into the guide channel (9) until it reaches the feed member (10) or the restraining member (15).

  • Patent number: 5170922
Abstract: Powder charge operated setting tool includes a barrel (11) and a closing or breech member (17), axially displaceable within a housing 1. Stops (3a, 17a) and shoulders (8b, 11e) cooperating with each other are provided in the housing (1) and on the barrel (11) as well as on the closing member (17) which limit displacement of the barrel (11) and, after an additional displacement travel, the displacement of the closing member (17) counter to the setting direction. As a result a free space is formed between the barrel (11) and the closing member (17) which permits feeding of propellant charges (15), especially in magazines, perpendicularly to the axis of the barrel.

  • Patent number: 5167359
Abstract: A portable setting device for driving fastening elements (4) through a structural member (B) has a muzzle part (1) mounted on and extending outwardly from a housing (2). The muzzle part (1) has a receiving region (5a) in a barrel (5) for a fastening element (4) in position ready to be driven. A feeler (47) is positioned on and extends in the driving direction outwardly from a leading end of the muzzle part (1). When the leading end of the feeler (47) is displaced rearwardly flush with the leading end of the muzzle part (1) the fastening element driving operation can be carried out. A pivotally mounted locking lever (50) is arranged to block the rearward displacement of the feeler (47) when there is not a fastening element (4) in the receiving region (5a). Accordingly, the setting device can not be operated unless a fastening element (4) is present in the receiving region (5a).
