Patent number: 8331266Abstract: A method, system, device and computer program product for automatically detecting a topology of a local area network, LAN. The LAN may be included in a telecommunication node, e.g. a base transceiver station. The LAN includes a central host and further hosts connected to the LAN. The central host sends topology descriptors to the hosts connected to the LAN, the hosts each reporting at least one of the received topology descriptors and other information to the central host. The central host can thus build up a topology data base describing the network topology. The topology descriptors are sent in broadcast frames to the hosts. A host, after having received a topology descriptor, may create one or more dedicated addresses, e.g. from the topology descriptor, and return the address(es) to the central host which may store the address(es).Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2007Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Nokia Siemens Networks OyInventors: Markus Hauenstein, Peter Niggemeier

Patent number: 8144607Abstract: The present invention relates to a method that provides for advertising a network node to a managing node in a communication network. To this end, at the network node, position data of the network node are determined. At the managing node, at least one condition to be satisfied by the network node is set and a request message containing the at least one condition is transmitted by the managing node. Then, the request message containing the at least one condition is received at the network node and the at least one condition is evaluated at the network node. In case a specified combination of conditions is satisfied, the network node replies with a reply message containing at least a network protocol address and the determined position data of the network node. The present invention further relates to a corresponding system and network entities involved.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2006Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Markus Hauenstein, Christoph Delfs, Jurgen Opschroef, Torsten Musiol, Stephan Grunloh, Uwe Kretschmer

Patent number: 7876688Abstract: A loop protection mechanism including dynamically determining a link connecting two adjacent nodes of a loop in a communication network in accordance with a predefined criterion, and reconfiguring the loop so that the loop is broken at the determined link which is an optimal link in terms of the predefined criterion. The breaking of the loop enables for example to utilize loop-free technologies (e.g. Ethernet) in a physical loop architecture.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2007Date of Patent: January 25, 2011Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Markus Hauenstein, Jouko Kapanen, Gerald Berghoff

Patent number: 7433368Abstract: For transmitting data in a communication network between a signaling entity and a peer signaling entity through a transport layer, such as TCP, a signaling transport converter STC on TCP is disclosed. The STC on TCP provides a signaling transport service for a connection between the signaling entity and the transport layer and comprises an interface to the signaling entity and an interface to the transport layer. The STC on TCP processes data to be exchanged between the signaling entity and the transport layer for a transparent transfer of the data to the peer signaling entity by means of the TCP transport layer. For providing a transaction-oriented data transport service, the STC on TCP may include a Message Wrapper which delineates a TCP based message stream and encapsulates/decapsulates the data to be exchanged.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2004Date of Patent: October 7, 2008Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Martin Feith, Markus Hauenstein, Thomas Mrotzek

Publication number: 20070211649Abstract: The invention relates to a simplified way to configure a new network element in a 3G radio access network. According to the invention, a network element, which requires connectivity to another external network element, automatically performs probing a connection in order to establish a connection to a network management system or the like.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2007Publication date: September 13, 2007Inventors: Markus Hauenstein, Andreas Wannenwetsch

Publication number: 20050254500Abstract: A system for distributing cells of an ATM cell stream across IMA links via interfaces or recombining ATM cells received from IMA links via interfaces into an ATM cell stream. In this system, IMA is no longer restricted to one physical interface module, and the IMA standard can be applied as it is specified. In other words, up to 32 physical interfaces can be used. The system includes a first module including N interfaces, the interfaces including L virtual interfaces (L?N), at least one additional physical interface module including physical interfaces, and a network architecture for connecting the physical interfaces of the additional physical interface modules to the virtual interfaces of the first module. Thus, IMA can encompass several physical interface modules, and practical restrictions in the number of physical interfaces can be overcome.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2004Publication date: November 17, 2005Inventors: Markus Hauenstein, Stephan Grunloh

Publication number: 20050213590Abstract: The invention proposes a network node comprising modules (1, 2, 3, 4, 6; 7) including transport functions in order to support a particular network transport protocol, wherein the transport functions are realized by software. The invention also proposes a method for operating the network node. Different network transport protocols are supported with the same hardware by installing corresponding software.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 16, 2004Publication date: September 29, 2005Inventors: Markus Hauenstein, Stephan Grunloh, Tamas Major, Gerald Berghoff, Martin Brundert
