  • Patent number: 10539060
Abstract: Various embodiments include a catalyst measuring system for on-board diagnostics and for determining the aging of an SCR catalytic converter for a vehicle comprising: a processor; an SCR catalytic converter for purifying exhaust gas of the vehicle; a high-frequency sensor for determining the ammonia loading of the SCR catalytic converter; a NOx sensor for sensing the NOx concentration downstream of the SCR catalytic converter; and an ammonia dosing system for injecting ammonia into an exhaust system of the vehicle. The control device instructs the ammonia dosing system to inject ammonia selectively into the exhaust system at a plurality of different dosing rates. The control device evaluates data received from the NOx sensor and of the high-frequency sensor to calculate the ammonia dosing rate.

  • Publication number: 20190211736
Abstract: Various embodiments may include a method for operating a catalytic converter device comprising: measuring electrical properties of the catalytic converter using high-frequency electromagnetic waves; determining a current operating state of the converter; acquiring reference points associated with the operating state; and checking a calibration of a measuring device. The operating states are selected from: an accumulator is completely emptied; an accumulator is completely filled; an accumulator is partially filled; a component to be stored is put into storage; a component to be stored is removed from storage; and an exhaust gas component to be converted or a quantity of the catalyst material in the exhaust gas which exceeds a threshold value is detected. The component to be stored is selected from the group consisting of: a catalyst material and the exhaust gas component.

  • Publication number: 20190162123
Abstract: An internal combustion engine may include: a combustion chamber to burn an air/gas mixture; an intake manifold configured to feed the air/gas fuel mixture to the combustion chamber at specified times for combustion; and an auxiliary starting system for starting the internal combustion engine. The auxiliary starting system comprises: an auxiliary fuel tank to store an auxiliary fuel; a control valve to open or close a connection between the auxiliary fuel tank and the intake manifold; an ambient temperature sensor to produce a signal that indicates an ambient temperature of the gas internal combustion engine; and a control unit to receive the signal from the ambient temperature sensor and to operate the control valve to feed auxiliary fuel from the auxiliary fuel tank into the intake manifold to start the gas internal combustion engine if the ambient temperature is lower than a specified ambient temperature threshold.
