  • Patent number: 10486049
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and method for monitoring a swimming performance. The device comprises one or more motion-sensitive sensors for providing motion data characteristic to the motion of the swimmer during said swimming performance and a computing unit adapted to detect body motions from said motion data using predefined criteria. According to the invention the computing unit comprises means for calculating a plurality of correlation factors depicting correlation of motion data between successive body motions detected, means for storing the correlation factors as a time series, and means for determining one or more parameters characteristic to the swimming performance based on said correlation factors stored. The invention can be used for robust determination of swimmer's turns, distance swum or swimming style, for example.

  • Publication number: 20160007888
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and method for monitoring physical activity of a person. The device comprises an acceleration sensor for providing acceleration data corresponding to movements of the person, a memory unit capable of storing an activity index value describing cumulative physical activity of the person, and data processing unit capable of being operated in at least a first activity monitoring mode in which the data processing unit is adapted to update the activity index value based on the acceleration data. In addition, the processing unit is, in the first activity monitoring mode, configured to determine if, and to update the activity index value only if, the acceleration data corresponds to walking- and/or running-related movements of the person. The invention allows for robust monitoring of activities that have an impact on fitness and health of individuals and reduce the risk of incorrect activity recordings.

  • Patent number: 7600426
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a mobile device. In accordance with the method—pressure data is measured, the pressure data is used as atmospheric-pressure data and/or for the definition of altitude, and the magnetic field of the Earth is measured by a magnetic sensor (22). In accordance with the invention consecutive measurements are performed using the magnetic sensor (22) and the consecutive measurement results are compared, and on the basis of the comparison the mobile device (20) is commanded to either atmospheric-pressure measurement or altitude measurement.
