  • Publication number: 20130044601
Abstract: Method and arrangement in a Radio Base Station RBS in a wireless communication system, for handling load coupling in softer handover. The method in an RBS involves receiving (702) signals from a plurality of UEs connected to the RBS, using a category 1 receiver. Further, the load experienced by the respective UEs is determined (704). The effect of load coupling in softer handover of at least one of the UEs connected to the RBS is estimated (706), and, when the estimated effect of load coupling of a UE fulfills a predefined criterion (708:1), at least one entity in the RBS is modified (710), such that the effect of load coupling is reduced or avoided.

  • Patent number: 8315344
Abstract: The transport format (TF) of a signal may be blindly detected from a reduced set of TF hypotheses. In an example embodiment, a method for the blind detection of a TF of a signal includes filtering a set of transport format hypotheses to identify a reduced set of TF hypotheses using one or more filtering schemes. From the reduced set of TF hypotheses, a TF that is associated with an interfering signal is detected. The TF includes a modulation and a spreading factor for the interfering signal. It may also include a number of channelization codes. In an example implementation, when an interfering signal is to be canceled, symbols carried by the signal are detected using the detected TF. Example filtering schemes include filtering based on system design/operation, filtering based on known configuration information, filtering based on an expected level of interference contribution, and so forth.

  • Publication number: 20120140801
Abstract: The invention relates to the technical field of radio communications, and in particular to an antenna device for a radio base station, and a method for precoding data in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system. Embodiments of the invention disclose a secondary precoder 24 in series with a multiple-input multiple-output precoder 22. The secondary precoder 24 has a plurality of inputs 34, 36 and a plurality of outputs 38, 40. The second plurality of inputs being in communication with each plurality of outputs 38, 40 such that one or more signals input to a respective one or more of the second plurality of inputs 34, 36 provides a substantially equal power of signals at the second plurality of outputs 38, 40.

  • Publication number: 20120120804
Abstract: A method for load scheduling in a WCDMA communication system utilizing GRake equalizing radio reception comprises estimating (210) of channel estimates for a plurality of users. Combining weights are established (220) for a GRake equalizing reception for the present received uplink digital radio signals. Function parameters of a predicted future load measure function is predicted (230) as a function of individual grants of the plurality of users based on at least the channel estimates and the combing weights, taking sensitivity for interference suppression provided by the GRake equalizing for each of the plurality of users into account. The predicting further comprises adaptation of the function parameters for changed load equilibrium levels caused by the individual grants of the plurality users. A set of grants for the users is selected (240) based on the future load measure function. Uplink load is scheduled (250) according to the selected set of grants.

  • Publication number: 20120033755
Abstract: In a transmitter using at least two transmitting antennas a STTD transmitter is used in combination with a common pre-coding transmitter for power amplifying power balancing. A selector can be provided for selecting data/channels transmitted using STTD and common pre-coding such that for one channel type, STTD or common pre-coding is used whereas the combination of both STTD and common pre-coding is used for a different data/channel type. By selectively using both STTD and common pre-coding for power amplifier power balancing, an improved power balancing is achieved. At the same time, the STTD gain is obtained in the relevant cases but the STTD loss in other cases is avoided.

  • Patent number: 8054869
Abstract: A downlink Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) is estimated in two steps. Initially, one or more subsets of received reference symbols are selected. If the transmitter may transmit signals in one or more of two or more frequency bands, optimal frequency bands are selected based on a first subset of reference symbols. If the transmitter may transmit using one of two or more VACs, an optimal VAC is selected based on the first or a second subset of reference symbols. An SINR is subsequently calculated for the selected frequency band and VAC combination, based on more than the subset(s) of reference symbols.

  • Publication number: 20110228740
Abstract: A radio base station (1) for use in a wireless communication system comprises—a scheduling unit (9) arranged to schedule at least one user terminal to which to transmit in each subframe and—a power allocation unit (11) arranged to allocate a first amount of power to be used for the at least one user terminal in each subframe, a transmitter (5) arranged to transmit a transport block in a subframe to a number of user terminals (3) in the wireless” communication system in accordance with said scheduling and power allocation. The radio base station further comprises—a correction unit (15) arranged to determine, after scheduling has been performed for a chosen subframe, if there is excess power in the chosen subframe that has not been allocated to any user terminal and if so allocate at least a first part of the excess power to at least one user terminal scheduled in the subframe. The excess power is used when transmitting in the subframe.

  • Patent number: 7986919
Abstract: A recursive method of calculating an inverse impairments matrix is used to generate an SINR estimate, which in turn is used to generate a CQI estimate. The recursive inverse impairments matrix calculation avoids the need to perform a computationally intensive matrix inversion, allowing for faster CQI estimate generation and consuming less power.

  • Publication number: 20110014907
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for uplink retransmissions from a user equipment to a radio base station in a UTRAN with enhanced uplink. The UE transmits a subframe comprising physical control channel(s) and physical data channel(s) in an initial transmission. According to the present invention, one or more of the physical control channels are transmitted with a lower transmission power level in all or some of the retransmitted subframes in the uplink. This results in reduced control overhead (a smaller part of the transmission power resource is used for control signaling) and thus reduced interference from the overhead. At the same time, the transmission power resource no longer used for the physical control channel information, can be used to increase the transmission power level of the physical data channel information in these retransmitted subframes, which improves the uplink coverage.
