    Abstract: The present invention discloses an imaging system and apparatus to obtain high-resolution low-noise intravital radionuclide imaging based on transparent window chamber. This imaging system is dedicated to preclinical research. It comprises a transparent window chamber, in particular a dorsal skin window chamber or a cranial chamber or an ear chamber or a spine cord chamber on a living animal, and a high-quality radionuclide imaging camera for the imaging of positron or electron. The apparatus is compatible with multimodality imaging, in particular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), microscopy imaging including fluorescence microscopy, phosphorescence microscopy and two-photon microscopy.

The ligand is a cyclic oligopeptide moiety having a motif B-Arg or B-(Me)Arg within the cyclic moiety, wherein B is a basic amino acid, a derivative thereof, or phenylalanine, provided that the motif is B-Arg when B is a N?-methyl derivative of a basic amino acid, and provided that the cyclic oligopeptide moiety has a sequence other than cyclo[D-Tyr-Arg-Arg-NaI-Gly] or cyclo[D-Tyr-Orn-Arg-NaI-Gly].

The improved ligands contain either natural or unnatural amino acids or peptidomimetic structures that are modified at either the N-terminal or the C-terminal end or at both termini, a carbohydrate unit and a chelator or prosthetic group to provide a complexation of a radioisotope binding or holding the radioisotope. The sst- or SSTR-receptor binding peptidic ligands may also contain one or more multifunctional linker units optionally coupling the peptide, and/or the sugar moiety and/or the chelator and/or the prosthetic group. Upon administering the ligand to a mammal through the blood system the ligand provides improved availability, clearance kinetics, sst-receptor targeting and internalization over the non-carbohydrated ligands.
