  • Publication number: 20180187068
Abstract: A method of preparing a drag-reducing composition that includes a dispersion polymer includes steps for preparing the dispersion polymer, steps for incorporating the dispersion polymer into a drag-reducing composition, and steps for using the drag-reducing composition. The step of preparing a dispersion polymer includes preparing an aqueous mixture by adding a water-soluble salt and at least one polymeric dispersant to water and polymerizing one or more water-soluble monomers in the aqueous mixture. Once the dispersion polymer has been combined with the drag-reducing additive, the combination is injected into a subterranean formation, a pipeline or a gathering line.

  • Patent number: 8916508
Abstract: A method of preparing and using a drag-reducing composition in a well treatment operation includes the step of preparing the drag-reducing composition by mixing a polymer emulsion that includes a first surfactant and a first solvent, with a second surfactant and a second solvent. The method continues with the step of combining the drag-reducing composition with an aqueous treatment fluid. The method further includes the step of injecting the drag-reducing composition and aqueous treatment fluid into a subterranean formation, a pipeline or a gathering line.

  • Patent number: 8865632
Abstract: A drag-reducing additive includes 40-85% by weight of a polymer emulsion that includes a polymer, a first surfactant, and a first solvent; 10-35% by weight of a second surfactant with an HLB greater than 8; and 5-30% by weight of a second solvent. In a preferred embodiment, the second solvent includes a terpene. In another preferred embodiment, the polymer is a copolymer that includes acrylamide and acrylic acid.

  • Patent number: 5067565
Abstract: Novel treating fluid compositions containing crosslinkable non-ionic cellulose derivatives and methods of use in petroleum recovery operations are disclosed. The treating fluid polymers are prepared by reacting vinyl monomers having a crosslinkable substituent with a cellulose derivative using a redox system comprising the reaction product of hydrogen peroxide with ferrous salt. The polymers readily crosslink with polyvalent metal ions, such as zirconium and titianium, to form temperature-stable gels useful in petroleum recovery operations.

  • Patent number: 4767550
Abstract: The present invention provides vicinal diol containing monomers and polymers and methods of preparing and using such monomers and polymers. When crosslinked in aqueous fluids, the polymers form high viscosity gels which are stable at high temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4730081
Abstract: The present invention provides a water soluble vinyl monomer containing a vicinal diol group of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently methyl or ethyl; Y is oxygen or NH; X.sup.- is a halogen, sulfate, CH.sub.3 SO.sub.4.sup.- or C.sub.2 H.sub.3 SO.sub.4.sup.- or CH.sub.3 COO.sup.- and n is 2 or 3. Polymers containing the monomer when crosslinked in aqueous fluids form high viscosity gels which are stable at high temperatures and can be used in carrying out completion, stimulation, enhanced production and other treatments in subterranean formations.
