Patent number: 9221602Abstract: An improved recyclables collection vehicle includes a lift mechanism for selective loading into any one of multiple hoppers on the vehicle. The lift mechanism includes a track which extends past the rear of the vehicle such that a moveable carriage may move along the track to collect a refuse bin located to the rear of the vehicle or on an elevated dock behind or alongside the vehicle. The carriage can be aligned with any one of the hoppers such that the lift mechanism will elevate the refuse bin and invert it over the hopper container. The movement of the carriage along the track and the raising of the lift mechanism are operated with a wireless remote control.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2012Date of Patent: December 29, 2015Assignee: Kann Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Kenneth D. Goedken, Jared L. Rowland, Marlin L. Johnson, Roger Taake, Keith Drewelow

Patent number: 9102468Abstract: An automated side loading mechanism for a refuse collection body capable of lifting and emptying a refuse container equipped with a trunnion bar. A carriage reaches out from the side of the collection body and includes a lift mechanism. The lift mechanism includes pockets to receive opposing ends of the trunnion bar on the refuse container. Lock arms pivot downward so that bar members on the lock arms overlie top edges of the refuse container. The carriage is retracted and the lift mechanism is raised on the carriage so that the refuse container can be upended over the load opening of the collection body. The bars on the lock arms angle upwardly to allow plastic lids hinged to the refuse container to swing past the bars when the container is upended, while restraining the container from falling into the collection body.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2012Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: Kann Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Kenneth D. Patent number: 8857024Abstract: A modification apparatus to convert an existing front loading refuse collection truck so that the lifted container remains level until the container is near the load opening of the refuse collection body of the truck. A mounting plate is bolted to brackets added to an existing refuse collection body and provides multiple connection points for attachment of one end of a slave cylinder that is hinged at its other end to one of the main lift arms of the collection body. As the rod of the slave cylinder extends or retracts with the movement of the lift arm, hydraulic fluid from the slave cylinder passes to fork cylinders which retract or extend to control the orientation of the lifted container relative to the lift arms. The apparatus can be easily added to a variety of existing front loading collection bodies.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2012Date of Patent: October 14, 2014Assignee: Kann Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Kenneth D. Goedken, Marlin L. Johnson, Jared L. Rowland

Patent number: 7871235Abstract: An improved front loading or side loading refuse collection body includes an ejector panel which is moveable from a position immediately adjacent the front end of the storage compartment of the refuse collection body to a second position at the open rear end of the storage compartment. A compaction blade in a compaction chamber adjacent the front end of the storage compartment is independently driven by a second hydraulic ram. The ejector panel has an opening which is in registry with the compaction blade such that refuse propelled by the compaction blade moves into the storage compartment when the ejector panel is positioned adjacent the front end of the storage compartment.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2008Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Assignee: Kann Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Robert D.
