Abstract: A fiber optic connector assembly includes a fiber optic connector mounted to a fiber optic cable having a ferrule with an end face terminating an optical fiber. The fiber optic cable is terminated with the fiber optic connector in a clean environment protected against airborne contaminants. A seal is placed about the ferrule within the clean environment to protect the polished end face of the ferrule including the end of the optical fiber against airborne contaminants. The seal is removable to make a fiber optic communications linkage without cleaning the end face of the optical ferrule.

  • Patent number: 7530745
Abstract: A fiber optic connector including a ferrule surrounding an optical fiber and a hub engaging the ferrule. The hub includes a front portion having first and second surfaces and first and second tapered contact regions extending from the first and second surfaces to a front face. A housing includes an anti-rotation seat configured to engage the first and second surfaces, the anti-rotation seat including first and second angled contact surfaces positioned at a front of the anti-rotation seat. A spring within a chamber of the housing biases the ferrule through a bore in the front of the housing. The first tapered contact region of the hub engages the first contact surface, and the second tapered contact region engages the second contact surface when the hub and ferrule are in a first rotational position so that the optical fiber is maintained at a known orientation with respect to the connector.

  • Publication number: 20090087157
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fiber optic connector holder sized to fit within an opening for mounting a fiber optic adapter. The fiber optic connector holder is configured to permit a fiber optic connector with a dust cap positioned about a ferrule and a polished end face of an optical fiber held by the ferrule to be inserted within and releasably held by the connector holder. The present invention further relates to a system for holding fiber optic connectors including a fiber optic connector holder mounted within an opening in a bulkhead for mounting a fiber optic adapter. The fiber optic connector holder is configured to receive a fiber optic connector with a dust cap mounted about a ferrule and polished end face of an optical fiber held by the ferrule. The present invention also relates to a method of holding an optical fiber connector to a bulkhead, when the fiber optic connector includes a dust cap mounted about a ferrule and a polished end face of an optical fiber held by the ferrule.

  • Patent number: 7510334
Abstract: A fiberoptic connector is constructed entirely of metal and includes structure to radiate heat. Preferably, the fiberoptic connector also includes an arrangement to indicate whether the fiberoptic connector is holding an energized optical fiber. Preferably, the heat radiating structure includes fin structure and a metal stamping projecting from the connector housing. The indicating arrangement preferably is a temperature sensitive strip secured to the housing, which changes color based upon the heat radiated by the optical fiber carried within. Methods of indicating an energized fiberoptic connector and of dissipating heat from a fiberoptic connector are provided.

  • Patent number: 7186038
Abstract: A fiber optic connector assembly with a fiber optic connector mounted to a fiber optic cable and including a ferrule with an end face terminating the fiber. A plug is configured to fit about and engage the ferrule of the fiber optic connector to seal the end face from contaminants. An adhesive tape is releasably attached to the connector about the plug, holding the plug to the connector. Further, a cover assembly for a fiber optic connector mounted to an end of and terminating a fiber optic cable. The cover includes an open sided box and a lid sized to engage the open side. The box and the lid define a cavity sized to fit about and receive a fiber optic connector. The cavity has an open end adapted to receive the optical fiber cable. The fiber optic connector is held within the cavity and the cable extends through the open end, with the lid engaging the open side and sealing the cavity from contaminants outside the cavity.
