Patent number: 8538838Abstract: The specification and drawing figures describe and show a system for pairing and decoupling vehicle components. The vehicle components may be disparate and distantly located from one another. The system includes a network management center having one or more data processing systems that may communicate with the vehicle components. An integrated wireless equipment management system is included whose components are mountable on the vehicle components, and operatively connectable to the network management center. Asset tracking units are located on each vehicle component, and are operatively connectable to the network management center. At least one executable program is included that is capable of processing data received across the integrated wireless equipment management system to establish a compatible communications connection between the asset tracking units to correctly pair the vehicle components.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2008Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Marquis D. Patent number: 8275307Abstract: An audio integrator monitors the outputs of a plurality of audio sources, and a controller prioritizes the audio sources. An active audio detection circuit determines when one or more of the audio sources become active. When the two or more audio sources are active simultaneously, the controller directs the highest priority audio source to one or more speakers. If a lower priority audio signal is currently playing, newly active voice communication audio, such as communications or directional information, is delayed to preserve the beginning of the message during an audio switch-over. A currently-playing, lower-priority audio signal may be decreased in volume, and a tone unique to the new audio source sounded, prior to the switching the audio to the higher-priority source. During audio input (e.g., while actuating a push-to-talk button on a microphone), all active audio sources are quieted.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2006Date of Patent: September 25, 2012Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Marquis D. Publication number: 20120184201Abstract: A compact display unit including a mobile application server. The mobile application server is mounted in the vehicle for receipt and transmission of communications. The mobile application server is operatively connected to the compact display unit. The compact display unit presents to a vehicle operator a plurality of pre-selected permissive communications for intercommunication between the vehicle and a remote base station located outside of the vehicle. A touch screen connects to the monitor and presents the programmed permissible communication options to the vehicle operator. The permissible communications options are capable of being masked by the remote base station, and cannot be unmasked by the vehicle operator.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 20, 2012Publication date: July 19, 2012Applicant: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventors: Michael Joseph Contour, Daniel Alexander Van Oosten Slingeland, Paul Michael Banasik, Marquis D. Patent number: 8140137Abstract: A compact display unit that includes a mobile application server. The mobile application server is mounted in the vehicle for receipt and transmission of communications. The mobile application server is operatively connected to the compact display unit. The compact display unit presents to a vehicle operator a range of pre-selected permissive communications between the vehicle and a remote server by a vehicle operator during operation of the vehicle. This abstract is provided to comply with rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure, but this abstract is not to be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of any claim.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2006Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Michael Joseph Contour, Daniel Alexander van Oosten Slingeland, Paul Michael Banasik, Marquis D. Patent number: 7999702Abstract: In one embodiment taught herein, a plurality of road-going vehicles report weather-related data to a weather-determining system. For example, trucks and/or cars having in-vehicle information systems wirelessly transmit one or more items of weather-related data, such that the weather-determining system directly or indirectly receives the transmitted data. In turn, the weather-determining system jointly processes the weather-related data to determine weather information for one or more geographic areas corresponding to reported positions of the road-going vehicles. In one embodiment, the in-vehicle information systems comprise GPS-based position reporting systems installed in on-highway trucks and other fleet vehicles, and the weather-determining system comprises a modified position-tracking system, e.g., a modified network fleet management system.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2006Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Marquis D.
