  • Patent number: 8123731
Abstract: An improved method for measuring and automatically disposing of infectious waste generated during and after surgical and clinical procedures is provided. The infectious waste removal device includes a suction source, a method for pressure verification, separation chamber for isolating fluids, containment reservoir, measurement chamber for determining fluid received, an information source for such fluid volumes, a quantitative method for calculating fluid dynamics, a post use cleaning method, and other attributes for use by the surgical team or healthcare staff in order to minimize health care worker handling of said infectious waste and to limit their possible exposure.

    Assignee: BioDrain Medical, Inc.
    Inventor: Marshall C. Ryan
  • Publication number: 20090216205
Abstract: A system and method for continuously aspirating and collecting fluid waste during a medical procedure without interruption for disposal of the collected fluid waste. The system includes a first reservoir in communication with a vacuum source which produces a negative pressure therein to draw the fluid waste from the patient using a suction hose connected thereto. A second reservoir is in communication with the first reservoir. A pump draws fluid from the first and second reservoirs while additional fluid waste continues to be drawn into the first reservoir through the fluid inlet.
