  • Patent number: 9796662
Abstract: Esteramine compositions and their derivatives are disclosed. The esteramines comprise a reaction product of a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives with a tertiary alkanolamine. Derivatives made by quaternizing, sulfonating, alkoxylating, sulfating, and/or sulfitating the esteramines are also disclosed. In one aspect, the ester derivative of the C10-C17 monounsaturated acid or octadecene-1,18-dioic acid is a lower alkyl ester. In other aspects, the ester derivative is a modified triglyceride made by self-metathesis of a natural oil or an unsaturated triglyceride made by cross-metathesis of a natural oil with an olefin. The esteramines and derivatives are valuable for a wide variety of end uses, including cleaners, fabric treatment, hair conditioning, personal care (liquid cleansing products, conditioning bars, oral care products), antimicrobial compositions, agricultural uses, and oil field applications.

  • Publication number: 20100197560
Abstract: A fabric conditioning active composition comprising an esterquat mixture of quaternised mono- di- and tri-esters of alkanolamine in which the tri-esterquat content of the quaternised esterquat mixture is from 25 to 50% by weight of said esterquat mixture. Additionally, (i) when the triesterquat content is from 25 to 30% by weight of said esterquat mixture the free amine content of the composition is less than 0.5% by weight on the weight on said esterquat mixture, and (ii) when the tri-esterquat content is more than 30% by weight of said esterquat mixture the free amine content of the composition is less than 6% by weight based on the weight of said esterquat mixture. The composition may contain less than 1% by weight of free fatty acid based on said esterquat mixture.

  • Patent number: 5840985
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the preparation of primary, secondary and tertiary amines with high conversion and high selectivity via low pressure catalytic hydrogenation of unsubstituted, N-substituted, and N,N-disubstituted amides. Amide hydrogenation is conducted using a catalyst system comprising copper chromite and a nucleophilic reagent, in combination with hydrogen gas. The process allows for production of amines which may be directly used as chemical intermediates in the manufacture of surfactants, quaternary ammonium compounds, bactericides, disinfectants, lubricants, petroleum additives, ion exchange resins and the like, without the need of purification, such as distillation.
