Abstract: It is provided an antimicrobial combination for the preservation of foodstuff, comprising citral, hexanal, and linalool as the only active ingredients having antimicrobial activity, and optionally other components and/or excipients devoid of any antimicrobial activity, an active packaging material for the preservation of foodstuff comprising the mentioned antimicrobial combination, as well as an active package comprising the active packaging material. The packaging material is useful for the preservation of foodstuff, particularly of minimally processed fruits or vegetables. Also, it is provided a process for producing the packaging material.

Abstract: A package for a fresh food selected from fresh mushrooms, fruits, and vegetables. The package includes a substrate having a coating in contact with the fresh food. According to one embodiment the coating includes a hygroscopic polymer matrix, a plasticizer, and a desiccant material selected from calcium chloride, calcium oxide, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate, ammonium chloride, sodium nitrate, citric acid, and tartaric acid, and wherein the amount of plasticizer is from 5 to 20 wt. % with respect to the amount of polymer matrix, and the amount of desiccant material is from 25 to 60 wt. % with respect to the amount of polymer matrix. Also, is provided a process for producing the package.

Abstract: Antimicrobial compositions for organic product packaging The invention relates to an antimicrobial combination for food packaging consisting of: i) salicylaldehyde; ii) carvacrol, thymol or a mixture thereof; and in some embodiments iii) other components and excipients devoid of any antimicrobial activity. The invention relates further to an active coating for food packaging comprising a polymeric matrix and said antimicrobial combination, to a package comprising said active coating, to a process for producing it and to uses thereof.
