  • Publication number: 20090294434
Abstract: A control system for determining a magnitude of a voltage and controlling an application of the voltage to at least one load device of an appliance is disclosed. The control system includes a threshold-crossing circuit configured to receive a representation of the voltage and to provide an output signifying the voltage crossing a predetermined voltage threshold; and a processor which receives the output from the threshold-crossing circuit and determine the magnitude of the voltage based on the output and a line frequency based on the period of the output, determines an initial cooking profile from a group of cooking profiles based on a user selected initial setting for controlling the application of the voltage to the at least one load device, and adjusts the application of the voltage to the at least one load device based on the determined magnitude of the voltage.

  • Publication number: 20090167085
Abstract: An appliance is provided with an improved power management system for controlling the total amount of current provided to at least a first load device of the appliance. The power management system is comprised of a microprocessor, an alternating current voltage source, a voltage regulating circuit, a clamping circuit, at least one load device, and a MOC and a triac for each of the at least two load devices. The clamping circuit outputs a fixed voltage of 5.7 volts during the positive portion of the ac cycle and a fixed voltage of ?0.7 volts during the negative portion of the ac cycle. The fixed voltages are input to a microprocessor which utilizes these inputs to control the average voltage and the amount of time the current is turned on to each of the at least first and second load devices.

  • Patent number: 7005983
Abstract: A detection apparatus for detecting refrigerator door openings is coupled to at least one switch configured to be activated by a door opening. When the door is opened, the switch is activated and inputs a signal to the detection apparatus. The detection apparatus rectifies the signal; and phase-shifts the rectified signal so that it leads or lags the line voltage. The shifted output signal is fed to a processor that detects the opening of the door based upon the shifted signal. Signals output by a plurality of switches that generate a signal when activated mixed using an opto-coupler. Relative impedance of the lead and lag circuits may be adjusted to differentiate a phase shift of one shifted signal relative to another signal. The processor converts a value in degrees of phase shifting of the mixed signal to a time value, and based upon the time value, the processor determines which of the doors is open.

  • Patent number: 6826267
Abstract: Appliances (102, 102, 106 and 108) are controlled by providing a source (2016, 112) of command fields (CMD, FIG. 2) that include a context subfield (Community, FIG. 4) defining operating modes and a command subfield (Command, FIG. 4) defining operations to be performed within the context subfield. A network (119) transmits the command fields between the source and the appliance. A controller (112, 116) processes the command fields so that an operation defined by one of the command subfields is performed.

  • Patent number: 6795871
Abstract: A control system for an appliance utilizing a plurality of peripheral devices includes a controller and a communications bus coupled to the plurality of peripheral devices and to the controller. The controller is configured to receive data from the peripheral devices over the communications bus and transmit control operations to the peripheral devices based on the data received. The communications bus reduces overall wiring requirements due to elimination or reduction of power wiring of the peripheral devices, facilitates distributed displays and human machine interfaces, and allows model differentiation with late point identification by a population of bus connections with a sensor, display, interface, or a blank. A data collision detection scheme is also provided to ensure proper communication along the bus.

  • Patent number: 6732319
Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, an appliance control system includes a controller having a processor and a memory including at least a first memory area and a second memory area so that a multiple write architecture may be used for storing data. The processor is configured to acquire appliance status data on a periodic basis, write the refrigerator status data to the first memory area and to the second memory area, and perform error detection upon the written data during refrigerator power-up. Upon power up, the controller determines the validity of data in one of the memory locations, or pages. If the data is determined to be invalid on one memory page, another memory page is used. Thus, by storing data redundantly in multiple memory pages with appropriate security measures, data may be retained for use on power-up without the expense of additional electronic components.

  • Patent number: 5042647
Abstract: An improved slat conveyor includes an improved slat having leading and trailing edge configurations inhibiting conveyed product leakage through the slat-formed apron. A leading edge of one slat overlaps and engages the depressed rearward edge of a preceding adjacent slat providing a substantially co-planar product apron. Movement of the slats about a headstock at a conveyor discharge end disengages the leading from the rearward edge, opening a slight gap between the slats so any captured product can fall out, as well as providing a scraping action of the trailing edge of a preceding slat with respect to the underside of the leading edge of a following slat to dislodge entrapped or impacted product. At the same time the leading edge overhangs the preceding slat so discharging product slides off the slats into the discharge location and not between the slats.

  • Patent number: 4708238
Abstract: A variable slope, cleated channel belt conveyor includes a bed, a bottom pan, and an improved elongated cleated belt. The belt extends around a drive and an idler or take-up pulley and includes a plurality of separate cleats to sweep particulate material along the bottom pan and upwardly onto the belt's top surface by means of a hood extending around the pulley of that end of the conveyor. This prevents build-up of particulate material in the bottom pan. The hood can be pivoted away from the belt to permit reverse operation of the conveyor, and hoods can be mounted at both ends to further accommodate a reversing operation. A universal, adjustable mounting permits the motor and gear box to pivot and thus remain level despite conveyor inclination.
