  • Publication number: 20090148309
Abstract: Vane pump (10) mechanical losses are reduced by removing vane friction losses and replacing them with lower magnitude journal bearing fluid film viscous drag losses. A freely rotating cam ring (70) is supported by a journal bearing (80). A relatively low sliding velocity is imposed between the cam ring and the vanes (26). This permits the use of less expensive and less brittle materials in the pump by allowing the pump to operate at much higher speeds without concern for exceeding vane tip velocity limits.

  • Publication number: 20080229726
Abstract: A fuel delivery system (10) comprises a variable displacement pump (20) for pressurizing fuel. The variable displacement pump has a distinct first pump displacement setting for a first desired mass flow of fuel and a distinct second pump displacement setting for a second desired mass flow of fuel. The variable displacement pump operates in only one of the first and second pump displacement settings. A fuel control (22) with a metering valve downstream of the variable displacement pump selectively regulates fuel delivery.

  • Publication number: 20070189740
Abstract: The present invention provides a heat exchange system for a closed loop fuel delivery system. The heat exchange system generally includes a first pump, a heat exchanger, a high pressure pump pressurizes fuel. The heat exchanger, which is located downstream of the first pump, receives the pressurized fuel flow. The high pressure pump, which is located downstream of the heat exchanger, delivers a predetermined amount of fuel flow to a jet engine. The circulating pump receives fuel flow downstream of the heat exchanger and recirculates the fuel flow upstream of the heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 6723569
Abstract: A dropping tool for transferring drops of a liquid onto a substrate wherein a surface of the dropping tool for contact with the liquid has a first region which exhibits an affinity to the liquid to be transferred directly surrounded by a second region which exhibits a lower affinity to the liquid to be transferred than the first region; the topography of the first and second regions and the relative affinities of the first and second regions for the liquid to be transferred being selected such that when the dropping tool is dipped into and then removed from a source of the liquid to be transferred, the liquid adheres to the first region without substantially any adherence of the liquid to the second region. A dropping tool for transferring drops of liquid onto a substrate, the dropping tool comprising a tip, at least one surface tapered towards the tip, and a capillary channel which leads from a position of the tapered surface remote from the tip to a reservoir located within the dropping tool.
