  • Publication number: 20060151454
Abstract: A girth weld pre-heating system and method is disclosed for pre-heating shell sections of assembled large steel vessels in the vicinity of a girth joint weld seam location between the sections prior to the joining of the sections together by a continuous girth weld. The pre-heating system avoids the need for direct attachment to the steel surfaces of the vessel shell sections in affixing heater elements and insulation to both the outer and inner surfaces of the shell sections along both sides of the weld seam.

  • Patent number: 7048616
Abstract: The present invention relates to a grinding apparatus for grinding an out-of-round trunnion tire for a rotating kiln. The present invention is mounted on a trunnion roller such that a tracking wheel and a grinder are in tangent with the out-of-round trunnion tire. The mounting bracket supports a means for angling the grinder so that it is in tangent with the out-of-round tire and making it round. The grinder is part of a grinder head assembly which is mounted on the angling means. The grinder head assembly includes the grinder, a housing and a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism includes a motor which drives the grinder wheel so that it grinds the trunnion tire back into round.

  • Patent number: 6949009
Abstract: A kiln tire grinder for grinding an out-of-round kiln tire comprising a grinding belt head assembly having a rotatable grinding belt and an x-y positioning table for positioning the rotating grinding belt assembly against a kiln tire. The rotating grinding belt assembly includes a drive assembly for rotating the grinding belt and a frame assembly for urging the grinding belt against the out-of-round kiln tire. The operator adjusts the rotating grinding belt head assembly against the out-of-round tire and then engages a drive motor which rotates the grinding belt. The rotating grinding belt is then urged against the kiln tire with a pressure that is adjustably controlled.

  • Patent number: 6257110
Abstract: A tube saw for precision cuts on tubing wherein a motorized circular saw is rotated about the circumference of a tube to cut it without leaving burrs, finishing marks or other deformations on the tubing. The tubing is held firmly and precisely by a plurality of facing triangular clamping elements and the clamping elements are centered and firmly locked in place relative the housing containing the saw to ensure the blade does not move relative the tube during the cut. The housing, rotatably holding the saw, has bearings with angular and radial stiffness to hold the saw firmly in position during the cut to ensure a high quality cut. A servomotor drives the rotatable portion of the housing at an even rate to cut the tubing with an even force and rate around its circumference. The saw is positioned close to the end of the clamping elements to limit bending and vibrations in the tubing from interfering with a square high precision cut.
