Abstract: A papermaking machine including the combination of an endless moving screen having an upwardly-inclined run, a primary open headbox for supplying a moving stream of a primary liquid slurry into contact with the screen for forming a first sheet-like structure on the screen, the primary headbox including a pond regulator for cooperantly defining a discharge end for enhancing the discharge of the stream of liquid slurry into the upwardly-inclined run of the screen, a secondary closed headbox in a piggyback relation to and integrated with the pond regulator for supplying a moving stream of a secondary liquid slurry into contact with the screen and the advancing first sheet-like structure.

Abstract: A stock delivery system is provided having a pair of inlet systems (one for large flow and one for small flow) selectively pivotally swung into operating position for charging a slurry through a perforated plate and into the following flow passage and slice which includes adjustments for optimum flow velocity by strategically-placed pivot points and adjusting mechanisms for controlling the heel and throat areas and the lip defining the slice.

Abstract: In a papermaking machine, a drainage interrupting mask of a certain width is disposed between a continuously moving endless Fourdrinier wire and respective suction box therebelow for interrupting web formation through the said certain width and along the length of the forming web and providing a dividing of the web with that portion of the web outboard of the mask being recycled for subsequent reuse as pulp slurry while the remainder of the forming web continues forwardly for the usual papermaking functions.

Abstract: Mechanism for automatically controlling and maintaining a selectively differentiated vacuum pressure in a vacuum head accommodating to the transverse width of a moving web passing relative thereto involving means for supplying air to the vacuum head at spaced points along the width and control means for detecting the need for an increase or decrease in the vacuum at the spaced points along the length and selectively charging more or less air to the vacuum head at the corresponding points along the length.

Abstract: Apparatus for coating a travelling web with at least one layer of a liquid coating composition, such as a binder, as the web is moved along a path through a coating zone by way of a formation at the coating zone of a free-falling vertical curtain which extends transversely of the path of travel and impinges the travelling web to deposit the coating thereon. A lip is provided in cooperation with an air pressure chamber so as to control the discharge of the binder onto the slide or face of an inclined wall and thence onto the web. The lip is adjusted uniformly across the machine width with a mechanical jack arrangement and it is also variably adjusted laterally of the machine width by means of spaced microjacks so as to permit the discharge of variable amounts of the composition across the machine in accordance with the lip opening set by the respective microjacks.

Abstract: A two-wire papermaking system for the formation of paper from paper slurry includes a first section where the slurry is maintained under pressure in a condition of minimum pond height under the guidance of a looped lower (bottom) web carrying wire having a single run over a progressive series of independently controlled dewatering boxes immediately prior to passage from the headbox through the adjacent slice and a second section comprising two wires (the said web carrying wire and a looped top or covering wire) facing each other (and between which the forming web is enclosed) and guided conjointlyover a dewatering roll to follow a downwardly curved path while secondary dewatering ensues through the top wire due to centrifugal forces before passage over a suction transfer roll where a first transfer from the bottom (forming) wire to the top wire ensues preparatory to passage over a vacuum transfer box for a second transfer from the top wire to a wet web saturator fabric or a through dryer fabric for delivery o
