  • Patent number: 5332361
Abstract: A water pump, especially for the cooling system of a combustion engine of a car, has a housing with a space for a fluid. This space contains a pump device. The pump device is mounted on a shaft which projects form the housing. The shaft rotates while being supported by a bearing assembly. The bearing assembly has an outer stationary ring mounted on the housing. The fluid space id sealed with respect to the shaft by a sealing unit having a first ring connected to the shaft, and a stationary second ring mounted on the outer ring of the bearing assembly. The first and second rings have sealing surfaces which are directed toward one another, or extend axially. The first ring is resiliently biased toward the second ring, to provide a seal therebetween. The first ring is connected to the shaft via an elastic dampening and centering element located between the inner circumference of the first ring and the outer circumference of the shaft, and distributed over the circumference of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4691092
Abstract: Method for welding together two parts, wherein a concentrated beam of energy causing melting of the parts is directed into the gap extending continuously between two parts, and wherein before welding, at the side facing the side where the beam first strikes the parts, a protective member preventing further passage of the beam of energy is permanently fitted.

  • Patent number: 4483671
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a multilayer powder blank, and the product of such manufacture which is suitable for subsequent extrusion. A hollow cylindrical container with its central axis oriented horizontally is rotated while powder is allowed to fall from a powder distribution tube in the center of the container downward onto the inner surface of the rotating wall, thereby forming successive layers of powder which are maintained in position by centrifugal forces acting thereon. The powder blank consisting of the multiple layers is removed from the container, isostatically compressed, and finally sintered, with fusion of the outer powder layers into a fused, water-tight coating.

  • Patent number: 4458958
Abstract: An object comprising at least two parts movable relative to one another, one of said parts being substantially enclosed within the other and one of the parts being made in at least two separate pieces and adapted to be held side by side in relation to the other part and secured together, a plurality of loose members in the space between the parts which are introduced at the time of positioning the separate pieces prior to being secured together, said parts being annular, and the parting line of said separate pieces lying in a plane perpendicular to the axis of revolution of said one part and means defining an opening in the other part extending radially therethrough and facing said parting line in the assembled condition.

  • Patent number: 4455278
Abstract: A method is described for producing articles having a metal core, an intermediate powder metallurgy layer, and an exterior wear- and chip-resistant layer on the portions thereof requiring the same, which comprises:applying to a bearing metal core, powdered steel alloy containing about 3.5% nickel by weight by cold isostatic compaction in a compressible mold under a pressure of about 6000 atmospheres to provide an intermediate powder metallurgical layer having a density of about 90%;sintering said intermediate layer on said core in an atmosphere of hydrogen at about 1200.degree. C. for about one hour;applying a wear- and chip-resistant layer to selected portions of said sintered intermediate powder metallurgical layer by plasma spraying; andhot isostatically compacting the sprayed article in a thin-walled deep-drawn vessel of low carbon steel having a wall thickness of about 0.

  • Patent number: 4419816
Abstract: A device for assembling a bearing comprising an outer race ring, at least a pair of separate inner race rings, a plurality of rolling elements in the annular space between the race rings and an opening extending radially in the outer race ring aligned with the parting line of the inner rings comprising a rotatable spindle provided with guiding or centering means, a shoulder, and a hollow member capable of being slipped over the free end of the spindle and having a skirt embracing the spindle with clearance so that the inner race pieces of the bearing to be produced are clamped between the shoulder of the spindle and the head of the hollow member, means acting on the free end of the spindle being provided to press the hollow member against the inner race pieces, while means for holding the outer race stationary and means for generating a high energy welding beam are provided.

  • Patent number: 4365679
Abstract: A drill bit with cutting teeth for drilling in rock comprising:a core member having raceways for rolling elements for rotation of the drill bit,a supporting layer exteriorly shaped to define cutting teeth and formed of highly compacted sintered powder material of substantially 90% density, isostatically bonded to said core member,a wear resistant layer applied by thermal spraying and covering only the portions of the cutting teeth which upon drilling directly contact the rock, said wear resistant layer and said supporting layer being isostatically compacted hot which combined are of substantially 99% density, said layers having a solid bond therebetween providing a drill bit of superior mechanical properties including high resistance to wear and chipping.

  • Patent number: 4330911
Abstract: A process for the production of objects consisting of at least two parts, such as the inner and outer rings of a bearing movable relative to one another. One part is substantially enclosed within the other part and at least one of the parts comprises at least two separate elements. These elements are placed against one another and held in the correct position in relation to the other part. Thereafter, a high energy beam welding means such as a laser or electron beam is set up over the juncture line between the two elements and operated while at least the two elements are moved bodily in order to move the juncture line past the energy beam and weld the pieces together. The process also includes the use of one or more loose members such as rolling elements which are introduced at the time the two elements of one part are assembled in the correct position in relation to the other part and thereafter the two elements of the one part are welded together.

  • Patent number: 4317850
Abstract: A method for applying a dense, hard, adhesive and wear-resistant layer of cermets or cermic material on a metal object. A mixture of the hard cermet or ceramic material with a bonding metal is sprayed onto the metal object. A gas-tight metal foil is applied over the sprayed on coating and the metal foil and sprayed on coating are isostatically compressed onto the metal object. The metal foil is removed leaving a dense, hard, wear-resistant layer of cermets or ceramic material and bonding metal.
