  • Patent number: 7868271
Abstract: A control device for converting a control movement along a control path into a control signal has the control path corresponding to different control stages or control types. The control device has two measuring tracks with a linearly changing resistance associated with each track. In one embodiment, these measuring tracks are positioned concentric to each other in a semicircle. A voltage U, which is tapped via two opposite interconnected sliders, is applied to both measuring tracks at a junction point while the other junction point is connected to ground. If the detected values of the tapped voltages deviate from a corresponding stored value or pairs of values, there must be a fault, due to, for example a broken slider. This makes it possible to perform a test for determining the fault or a malfunctioning control device.

  • Patent number: 7812288
Abstract: A sensor for a sensor device on a cooking hob is provided with contacts on a support, an electronic circuit for signal processing and a resistance track for temperature measurement. The sensor is arranged in a tubular metallic housing above a radiant heater of the cooking hob. The metallic housing is operated as an electromagnetic pan recognition sensor. The functions of temperature measurement and pan recognition can be combined in one sensor device as a module. A good transmission of sensor signals can be achieved as a result of the physical proximity of the sensor signal processor to the sensor by placing them on the same support.

  • Publication number: 20100239987
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for operating a cooking point with a gas burner of a gas hob is disclosed in which pan detection is provided for switching off the gas burner when the pan is removed, wherein the pan detection unit can detect the re-placement of a removed pan onto the cooking point and then cause a further operation of the gas burner by igniting the gas burner. When the gas burner is ignited after re-placement of the pan, a power level originally set for the gas burner is only achieved after a time delay, thereby preventing any injury to the user.

  • Patent number: 7786400
Abstract: An operating device for an electrical appliance, for example a cooking appliance, is provided with a deformable metallic control panel, underneath which an electret microphone cartridge is disposed. The membrane of the microphone cartridge can be coupled to the lower side of the control panel by means of an elastomer. When pressure is exerted on the control panel by a user pressing on the operating field and causing it to deflect, the membrane of the electret microphone is moved, which in turn causes movement in the microphone and causes a signal that can be evaluated as the operating input by a user.

  • Publication number: 20100140249
Abstract: An operating device for an electric hob comprises a plurality of touch pads as touch points, in which operation takes place by applying a finger to specific defined touch points. The touch pads may be in themselves structurally movable separately of the electric hob or the operating device. The touch pads comprise individual coding circuits which can be accomplished by way of modulation of an electromagnetic field. The operating device has an electrode surface for attachment next to the electric appliance, on which the touch pads are arranged. Capacitive coupling is formed between the touch pads and the electrode surface. The operating device comprises a drive and evaluation device connected to the electrode surface both for detecting touching of a touch pad in general and for detecting and differentiating between touching of a specific touch pad and touching of another touch pad as indicated by the individual coding circuit.

  • Patent number: 7652230
Abstract: An operating device for a cooktop has a cover with a control panel with a plurality of operating areas. Below the panel, several FSR sensors are positioned. When a control panel is pushed down by a process of operation, the FSR sensor changes its electrical resistance resulting in change of a signals that can be detected and interpreted as operation of the appliance by a user.

  • Publication number: 20100012647
Abstract: The invention relates to an operating device for a stove top, the device comprising rotary operating parts that are rotatably mounted in a base. The parts have a protruding region as a signal means, the region rotating in a plane of the stove top or a stove top plate when the rotary operating part rotates. In said plane, the stove top has a distance sensor, which can detect the rotation of the protruding region by means of the variable distance and evaluate the same as a rotational actuation or rotational movement for operating the stove top.

  • Publication number: 20100012645
Abstract: The invention relates to a temperature probe for an oven, comprising in one embodiment a longitudinal housing in the form of a spit. A temperature sensor and an electronic unit are arranged in a tip and are connected at the other end to emitting means. The temperature probe comprises a thermogenerator for producing energy. The thermogenerator uses a temperature difference between a higher temperature inside the oven and a lower core temperature in a food product, such as roast, in which the temperature probe is inserted, for producing energy for operating the emitting means.

  • Publication number: 20090189747
Abstract: In a hob (11), an operating toggle placed on a front panel (17) has on a connected power control device an actuator (23) for producing a haptic acknowledgement or response in the case of operation. The operating toggle (19) also has a proximity sensor (27). If a hand (29) approaches the operating toggle (19) for operation, this is detected by the proximity sensor and it brings the actuator (23) from a current-economizing standby mode into a normal mode, where it operates normally. If the hand (29) is removed again, it is again brought into the standby mode.
