In one embodiment, a medicament includes an oxidized protein, an oxidized peptide, or structural analog or mimetic thereof. Methods for prophylaxis or therapy of acute infections, inhibition of angiogenesis, and improvement of hemostasis include administering to an animal or human in need thereof an effective amount of a medicament including an oxidized protein, an oxidized peptide, or structural analog or mimetic thereof.
