  • Patent number: 4642204
Abstract: A method of containing radioactive or other dangerous material separately or intermixed with a bonding compound of a material, resistant to leaching by water, in a gas-tight container and of converting the material by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) into a dense body. The material is filled into a cylindrical container having a corrugated bellows-like wall. The dangerous material is prevented from filling up the annular spaces formed by the corrugations, by means of a barrier means placed inside the container. A metallic netting combined with a paper-like sheet of ceramic material makes a suitable barrier means.

  • Patent number: 4238636
Abstract: The present invention relates to a heater, primarily for pressure furnaces for extremely high temperatures for isostatic compression. The resistance elements of the heater are arranged between two metal rings at different levels which are supported by conductors. The resistance elements comprise two groups of wires arranged in a righthand and a lefthand spiral, respectively. The wires are joined together at the intersection points by means of lashing.

  • Patent number: 4085605
Abstract: Method and apparatus for plastically de-forming material in a high pressure cylinder, the material being pre-formed into a mandrel billet with an attachment portion and a piston at respective opposite ends thereof and interconnected by an intermediate portion having a smaller cross section than the piston. Holder structure releasably mounted within the high pressure cylinder adjacent the pressure chamber retains the mandrel billet and includes securing means at one end for retaining the attachment portion and engagement means at the other end for slidably engaging the piston. Pressurization of the pressure chamber generates an increase in the pressure medium which acts on the transition surface between the intermediate portion and the piston to cause an elongation of the intermediate portion of the mandrel billet.
