  • Publication number: 20140221561
Abstract: An alkyd surfactant which is effective in emulsifying alkyd resins is formed by copolymerization of at least one monomer having a hydrophilic group, at least one ethylenically unsaturated fatty acid or ester, and optionally, at least one polyol, and has a low degree of branching. Stable alkyd emulsions are formed by emulsification of alkyd resins with the alkyd surfactant. Since the alkyd surfactant has ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobe groups which can react with the alkyd resin during curing, the alkyd surfactant is not subject to migration, blooming or leaching from cured coatings.

  • Publication number: 20130096251
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to crosslinkable silyl group-containing polymers and methods of producing them. In one embodiment a method of producing a silyl polymer is provided. The method includes reacting at least one natural oil based polyol with at least one isocyanate to form at least one prepolymer having at least one NCO group. The at least one natural oil based polyol includes the reaction product of hydroxymethylated fatty acids or esters thereof and at least one polyol initiator. The prepolymer having at least one NCO group is reacted with at least one amino functional alkoxy silane to form the silyl polymer, such that the silyl polymer includes at least one crosslinkable silyl group, at least one urethane group, and at least one urea group in each molecule.

  • Patent number: 7329703
Abstract: The invention relates to polymers derived from macrocyclic oligomers containing organo clay fillers comprising a) a polymer derived from a macrocyclic oligomer; b) clay platelets; and c) the residue of one or more onium compounds having at least one ligand with a C5 or greater carbon chain and at least one ligand containing one or more functional groups having one or more active hydrogen atoms wherein the functional group is reactive with the macrocyclic oligomer and/or functional groups formed when the macrocyclic oligomer decyclizes wherein a portion of one or more of the onium compounds is ironically bound to the clay platelet and covalently bonded to the polymers derived from macrocyclic oligomers. The invention also relates to processes for preparing such compositions. Furthermore, the invention relates to articles prepared from organoclay filled polymer compositions.
