  • Publication number: 20120253798
Abstract: A system for combining signals includes a first microphone generating a first input signal having a first voice component and a first noise component, a second microphone generating a second input signal having a second voice component and a second noise component, a mixing circuit, and an adaptive filter. The mixing circuit applies a first gain having a value ? to the first input signal to produce a first scaled signal, applies a second gain having a value 1?? to the second input signal to produce a second scaled signal, and sums the first scaled signal and the second scaled signal to produce a summed signal. The adaptive filter computes an updated value of ? to minimize the energy of the summed signal based on the summed signal, the first input signal and the second input signal, and provides the updated value of ? to the mixing circuit.

  • Patent number: 8262271
Abstract: A display comprises: a single-view image display panel (6); and a parallax optic (8) disposed over a display face of the image display panel for restricting the angular spread of light output from the display face of the image display panel. This enables light to be concentrated in a desired viewing angle range (66), and avoids a user (56) seeing unwanted reflections that may occur as a result of a greater viewing angle range (64) if the parallax optic (8) is not provided. The display may be used, as an example, in a motor vehicle to prevent unwanted reflections from the windscreen (62) of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8224966
Abstract: A method is disclosed for reproxying connections. According to one aspect, a first connection is established between a client and a proxy device. A second connection is established between the proxy device and a server. The first connection comprises a first endpoint at the client and a second endpoint at the proxy device. The second connection comprises a third endpoint at the proxy device and a fourth endpoint at the server. The first and second connections are unproxied by dissolving the second and third endpoints while maintaining the first and fourth endpoints. After the connections have been unproxied, a packet is received at the proxy device. In response, the first and second connections are reproxied by creating fifth and sixth endpoints at the proxy device, so that the first connection comprises the fifth endpoint and the second connection comprises the sixth endpoint.

  • Publication number: 20120157317
Abstract: The invention provides a composition in concentrated form (“the concentrate”) for dilution with water in the preparation of an agricultural composition for application to crops, soil or animals, comprising a carbohydrate-based pH modifying agent and a pH indicator. The agricultural composition comprises an agricultural chemical whose agricultural activity varies with the pH of the water. The proportions of the pH indicator and the pH modifying agent in the concentrate are selected so that when the concentrate is diluted with an appropriate amount of water, the pH indicator indicates visually by colouration of the composition, whether or not the pH of the water is suitable for acceptable agricultural activity of the chemical. The invention also provides a process for preparing the agricultural composition by mixing the concentrate with water, and adding the agricultural chemical to the composition, if it is not already present in the concentrate.

  • Publication number: 20120112165
Abstract: An improved optoelectronic device is described, which employs optically responsive nanoparticles and utilises a non-radiative energy transfer mechanism. The nanoparticles are disposed on the sidewalls of one or more cavities, which extend from the surface of the device through the electronic structure and penetrate the energy transfer region. The nanoparticles are located in close spatial proximity to an energy transfer region, whereby energy is transferred non-radiatively to or from the electronic structure through non-contact dipole-dipole interaction. According to the mode of operation, the device can absorb light energy received from the device surface via the cavity and then transfer this non-radiatively or can transfer energy non-radiatively and then emit light energy towards the surface of the device via the cavity. As such, the deice finds application in light emitting devices, photovoltaic (solar) cells, displays, photodetectors, lasers and single photon devices.

  • Patent number: 8140465
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for monitoring and controlling a device under test, the device under test comprising a plurality of registers, each register having a register value and comprising a plurality of data bits for controlling a setting or settings of the device under test. The apparatus comprises display means for displaying an interactive register map to a user. The interactive register map is configured to display a plurality of register values simultaneously, and further adapted to display one or more data fields corresponding to each register value, each data field relating to one or more of the data bits and having a first indicator for representing a corresponding device setting. In this manner, a user can readily appreciate which device settings are controlled by the same register value, and hence can be written simultaneously.

  • Publication number: 20100301287
Abstract: Process for treating spent nuclear fuel (SNF) to make mixed metal oxides of UO3 and PuO2 to prevent nuclear proliferation. The process comprises the steps of (1) dissolving spent nuclear fuel in an acidic solution in the presence of an agent that reduces Pu+6 to Pu+4 and an agent that oxidizes Pu+3 to Pu+4; (2) extracting U+6 and Pu+4 from acidic solution with an organic solvent comprising a ligand that binds U+6 and Pu+4 and which is soluble in the organic solvent; (3) jointly extracting U+6 and Pu+4 from the organic solvent with an acidic aqueous solution; and (4) precipitating a mixture of U+6 and Pu+4 by adding a carboxylic acid to the acidic aqueous solution. The U+6 and Pu+4 precipitate is then be calcined to form a mixed metal oxide of UO3 and PuO2. Additional steps can result in the formation of a mixed metal oxide of UO3, PuO2 and NpO2 as well as the removal and isolation of technecium from the SNF.
