  • Publication number: 20140185859
Abstract: An electronic device having an enclosure having a top panel and a bottom panel. An electromagnet is mounted within the enclosure, the electromagnet having a core portion attached to the top panel and a coil connected to the core portion. An attractor plate is attached to the bottom panel, the attractor plate forming part of a magnetic circuit of the electromagnet such that when an electrical audio signal is applied to the electromagnet, the bottom panel vibrates and produces a sound. A permanent magnet is further attached to the core portion, the permanent magnet is configured to create a bias in the magnetic circuit so as to modify a distortion in the sound.

  • Publication number: 20140161279
Abstract: A multi-channel audio system that can provide a variable sub-sample delay between two or more audio channels. In one embodiment, a variable timing clock generator generates multiple clock signals where each may have different phase, and the clock generator can vary the phase difference, in accordance with a sub-sample delay setting input. These clock signals are used by respective digital-to-analog converters (DACs) to convert the digital audio channels into analog form. In another embodiment, a variable delay block is added to an oversampling DAC, on a per channel basis. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

  • Publication number: 20130142356
Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed that allow for selective acoustic near-field nulls for microphone arrays. One embodiment may take the form of an electronic device including a speaker and a microphone array. The microphone array may include a first microphone positioned a first distance from the speaker and a second microphone positioned a second distance from the speaker. The first and second microphones are configured to receive an acoustic signal. The microphone array further includes a complex vector filter coupled to the second microphone. The complex vector filter is applied to an output signal of the second microphone to generate an acoustic sensitivity pattern for the array that provides an acoustic null at the location of the speaker.

  • Publication number: 20130129122
Abstract: A method and apparatus for outputting audio based on an orientation of an electronic device, or video shown by the electronic device. The audio may be mapped to a set of speakers using either or both of the device and video orientation to determine which speakers receive certain audio channels.

  • Publication number: 20130028443
Abstract: A system for enhancing audio including a computer and an output device. The computer includes a sensor configured to determine a user location relative to the computer. The sensor is also configured to gather environment data corresponding to an environment of the computer. The computer also includes a processor in communication with the sensor and configured to process the user location and the environment data and adjust at least one of an audio output or a video output. The output device is in communication with the processor and is configured to output at least one of the audio output or the video output.

  • Patent number: 6714838
Abstract: The input of information into the control unit of a lottery ticket dispensing machine, for filling of dispensing containers of the machine with different game tickets, defining a game number for a game provided on the tickets, a price of the ticket, a total number of the tickets making up the quantity of tickets and a length of the tickets from a leading edge of each ticket to a trailing edge thereof is simplified so as to avoid requiring the service person to enter the information on a key pad as numerical values. This is effected by providing the information in machine readable form on the tickets themselves or on a game set up card associated with the tickets so that the information can be scanned into the control unit by a reader. Alternatively, the information can be provided in a simplified coded form for simple input by the service person into a key pad of the control unit.

  • Patent number: 5542777
Abstract: A vehicle includes a composite panel 10 with nonparallel face sheets 12,14, and a reinforcing core 16, preferably honeycomb, lying therebetween. A fastener 30 lies in an aperture 22 of the panel, and includes a socket 32 with a flange 40 bearing against first face sheet 12, and a body 46 defining a through aperture 54 and a spherical cavity 50. Fastener 30 also includes a swivel 34, with a ball-shaped knob 62 rigidly coupled to a post 64. Knob 62 fits into cavity 50 and can swivel. Post 64 is internally and externally threaded. An internally threaded spacer 36 is screwed onto the exterior threads 65 of post 64, to adjust the length of the fastener to the thickness of panel 10. Either post 64 or spacer 36 includes an additional fastening arrangement. In a particular embodiment of the invention, the additional fastening means of the spacer is a flange, and in another embodiment, it is a threaded portion of the bore of the post or of the spacer.
