    Abstract: A powertrain assembly includes an engine having at least one cylinder and at least one electric machine operatively connected to the engine. A motor speed sensor is operatively connected to and configured to obtain motor speed data of the electric machine. A controller is operatively connected to the motor speed sensor. The controller including a processor and tangible, non-transitory memory on which is recorded instructions for executing a method for detection of firing irregularities in the at least one cylinder. Execution of the instructions by the processor causes the controller to obtain the motor speed data at a predefined time interval from the motor speed sensor, until a predefined time window is reached. A fast Fourier transform of the motor speed data during the predefined time window is obtained. The controller is configured to control the engine based at least partially on the fast Fourier Transform.

    Abstract: A first counter is incremented when a first rotational speed sensing device detects a falling edge of one of the teeth of a single multi-tooth target wheel, a second counter is incremented when a second rotational speed sensing device detects a falling edge of one of the teeth, and a third counter is incremented when either of the first and second rotational speed sensing devices detects either of a rising edge and a falling edge of one of the teeth. A direction of rotation is determined based upon the third counter and a rotational speed of the rotatable member is determined based upon one of the first and second counters. The rotatable member is indicated to be at zero speed when the rotational speed is less than a threshold speed and the direction of rotation changes between a positive direction and a negative direction.

    Abstract: A gerotor pump includes an inner ring and an outer ring. The inner ring is rotateable about an axis, where the inner ring has an outer diameter contact surface. The outer ring has an inner diameter contact surface that defines a central opening. The central opening receives the inner ring, and a portion of the inner diameter contact surface engages a portion of the outer diameter contact surface of the inner ring. A motor including a rotor and a stator that surrounds the rotor is included. The rotor surrounds the outer ring and exerts a driving force on the outer ring such that the outer ring rotates about the inner ring. The inner diameter contact surface of the outer ring and the outer diameter contact surface of the inner ring create a plurality of chambers. Rotation between the inner ring and the outer ring expand and contract the chambers to expel fluid from the gerotor pump.

    Abstract: An optical encoder includes a first signal diode that emits light at an infrared wavelength, and a second signal diode that emits a light at a visible blue wavelength. The optical encoder further includes a first sensor diode having an optical wavelength filter for filtering out light having a wavelength outside the infrared wavelength, and a second sensor diode having an optical wavelength filter for filtering out light having a wavelength outside the visible blue wavelength spectrum. A slotted wheel defining a plurality of radially extending slots rotates past the signal diodes and the sensor diodes such that the sensor diodes may sense the light passing through the slots in the slotted wheel.

    Abstract: A cam cover for an overhead cam engine has first and second oil separators connecting the crankcase with the engine induction system high and low vacuum portions as part of a crankcase ventilation system. The separators each have a floor sloping toward the outlet and forming a sump with a drain to the crankcase. A large slow flowing separation chamber precedes the sump. An optional inlet tube is angled down with a large inlet facing away from the oil splash. A shelf may extend between the sump and the outlet end to deter oil carryover to the outlet. Optional PCV valve and oil filler locations are shown.
